Remember Those 50's Tiles?

I mentioned in my post on my kitchen that I had strategically hid the 50s tiles in our kitchen. I've always gone for more of a country look but we have decided to embrace the tiles and tie them into our decor. So we are taking this kitchen back to the 50s. I am keeping my dishwasher though. We are trying to pick a color for paint. And I have already been pulling together some new decor. The picture is a little dark as it was very cloudy when I shot this photo. Anyone know the name of the tile? I thought is was Sunburst but we have always just called them the George Jetson tiles.

.I believe they are called Franciscan Starburst or something like that.

I love this store! I have robin's egg blue cabinets and was looking at the lime polka dot ones. I see hers are on open shelving--I am wondering if this would look OK on my upper cabinets.

I love the Jetson's and the tiles. There is an aqua paint color I love "Rainwashed" by Sherwin Williams. Take a look at it on House of Turquoise blog it is lovely.

I have that tablecloth! When I was a little girl my nana had a turquoise stove and frig. which I thought was so cool. My other grammie was a farmer and it was country all the way.
I have no idea what the tiles are called.

Those remind me of my grandmother's good dishes. I always called it the atomic china. Now I have to let you know - I think those shelf liners are really border from a school/teacher supply store. You can buy bundles of it for about $4-5. Just go to your local store and ask them about bulletin board borders. :) But I sure do Lake Forest Kitchen Lady! She has such fun stuff.

I just found your blog, and you probably know this by now, but your tile is the Franciscan Starburst pattern. It is much loved by many mid-century fans like myself. It is also available on dishes, ashtrays, etc. Google "franciscan starburst tile", and you will find a bunch of fun blog posts about it.

I am glad you are embracing them, they're cool as heck - and I cannot even believe your luck finding the mugs. YAY!!!

My niece has a set of these dishes. I'll ask her the name. Funny, we've thought of the Jetsons with these dishes too.
