Color Rules?

I don't follow the rules. At least color rules where the garden is concerned. I just plant what I want. This year I am really into purple and yellow.

Zinnias are one of my favorite flowers. Like real life pincushions.

I do try to avoid putting orange and pink right next to each other. That would clash terribly.

I think you should plant what you like and it is only flowers. You can move them.

Generally, I am a good girl and always follow the rules but in the garden I am a rebel.

  1. Yellow and purple are great together because yellow is the first color the eye perceives, and blues are the last. Nice combinations, I think :D

  4. We share a love of zinnias!!!! Your flowers look absolutely wonderful. Purple and yellow are so perfect together (traditional Easer colors) and I love pink and orange together too!! (remember the wild 60's?) I do agree that there shouldn't be any rules in the garden, just plant what makes you happy! I gravitate towards, blues, purples, pinks and peach, with a bit of white and various shades of green.

  8. I do love purple and yellow together! It is so eye-catching. Red and blue is another of my favourites.I also like to use complementary colour combos like pink and purple.

Thank you for visiting my blog today. It's funny that you should say we can grow things here in Edmonton that you can't. In the colder climes we are all wishing it was warmer like California so we could grow a greater variety of plants. Every region has its growing challenges and benefits, I keep reminding myself.

  9. Love yellow and purple together, and, believe it or not, orange and pink look great together in the garden. I've done them in pastels with impatiens and bolder with zinnias. Both looked fab!
