Problem Area-Organizing the Laundry Room Surfaces

I know it isn't pretty but this is typically what happens each week to the counter top in my service porch as we call it or laundry room to the rest of the world. This is after a weekend of painting. Everyone, including me, has a habit of setting things down in here that need to be put away, taken to the garage or filed away. I set down papers and coupons, hubby household repair items and the kids are always setting the endless recyclables on the counter waiting for the daily trip out to the barrel. Here is my challenge. Get serious about using better containers, wall space and organization in this abused space. AND do it using what I already have if I can help it.
Oh and the cat food that has to be up high or the dogs will eat it. Nice huh?

Found some inspiration and ideas I like. Love the idea of using the space over the door for more storage. This is

Love the use of wall pockets here for paperwork.

Love all of your inspiration ideas. Our laundry room is on the way to the garage, and I do agree, it just seems to be the place everything gets dropped. Can't wait to see what you do. Hugs, Marty

ohhh, some pretty rooms to refer to! My laundry room is waiting for some retexture, then I will paint. Then decorate. Always something!
Oh...Blog Sugar is now closed. Did you get a ticket?

I have the same problem with my laundry/utility room-- No flat surface goes uncluttered for some reason!
What I do when trying to retrain myself not to clutter a particular surface is I light a candle (put it on a fire safe dish)in the case of utility room; I'd leave the door open between there and the kitchen-- but after lighting a candle every day for a couple of weeks-- it helps me to remember not to clutter that surface. {smile}
I love these types of posts-- Jackie over at 'blessings over flowing' is having a fix it up Friday and trying hard to promote it-- your post would fit in great there you should go join in the fun! If you do link parties...

Good Morning!
I know how you feel...we have a service porch/laundry room/porch entry too and it's always filled with things that need to go somewhere. I love all the ideas you show here. Our ceiling is too low out there to use a shelf above the doors but I sure love the way it looks. We need hanging cupboards but I don't want them sticking out as far as the standard ones do. I guess we'll have to get creative when the day comes to do some renovating in there. That room and the kitchen are the last rooms that need work here in the old farmhouse but I'm in NO hurry to start on them. So in the meantime...I'll keep my eyes open for interesting things that could work for wall storage etc. Thanks for the great ideas! Have a wonderful weekend!

Yeah, we have the cat food/dog problem here, too. And she is is very attracted by the cat box as well...we have to keep it in an access restricted room (a seldom used bathroom with a slider door that is rigged to only open a few inches so the cat can get in.) What a pain. The laundry room in our house is a stop gap between the garage and the rest of the house so a lot of stuff sits on those counters "on the way" to being put away...always a nagging mess =-/ These are some good ideas!

Hi,
I love the idea of putting a shelf over the door! I just saw that yesterday with a shelf over a window. I am looking for more space to put things. Since I moved, this house has a tiny laundry room...so everything gets dumped on my counter in the kitchen. I am constantly putting it all away and by the time I'm done, I'm tired. I would love to have a place for everything and everything in its place...as my mother would say. These are some good ideas! Good Luck getting organized.

Those are all great ideas...I find that flat surfaces always get things dropped off on them...ours is the kitchen table...why does everything end up there??

Boy do I need help with my laundry room, my workroom and more! I always have ideas for everyone else, but can't seem to keep up at my own house! My teens use every surface as a drop off area. It's like the post office, the stuff just keeps coming! Thanks for the inspiration.

I know just how you feel, it would be so nice if I could have a pretty usable laundry, too. I have always dreamed of it, and one day, hopefully it will come to pass. I like your inspiration photos.

I really need to get organized with our laundry!! We are 5 in our family and our problem are the towels!! My teenage boy uses one clean towel for his daily shower and although he does his own laundry he has a mountain of them in his room!! What I did was to take out all the old towels and just leave 2 towels for him, 1 towel for my daughter, 1 for the baby and 3 towels for mom and dad. The socks is not and issue for us, everyone takes care of their own socks. I use a mesh bag for the baby’s socks and I take care of my husbands socks. Thanks for the ideas of organizing laundry room I will put them to the test.
