Back to School Vignette

Okay, this was entirely too much fun to put together. Maybe it is the anticipation of fall, my favorite time of the year. Hubby and I collected things from around the house we thought had a school theme.

The little desk is actually an American Girl Doll desk and the typewriter is AG too. I thought it was perfect. The slate, an antique I bought, has been dropped by one of my kids and cracked, but I still love it.

My little Mia doll is reading her little Bible which was actually my dad's from WWII.

The microscope was hubby's grandfather's and is pretty old.

The old text books are from the late 1800's and belonged to my grandfather. He collected old books.

Although we have been a lifelong homeschooling family, I still like to make a big deal about back to school. This year I actually don't have much teaching to do. My oldest two are in college and my 13 year old is taking all of her classes from other teachers so all I will have is my three year old and I will do some sort of preschool program but mostly she will play and enjoy the other kids in our homeschool group.

  1. That is so cute!!! I love it, the Pledge of Allegiance with the flags is very special!
Congratulations on being a home school mom. My daughter is home schooling her 7 year old again this next year and will soon be schooling her son. He is already learning to read and hasn't had his own class yet...but they learn so much just listening and watching, don't they.

  2. I just love this whole vignette! Our daughter will be heading back to college in a couple of weeks, so I miss buying new boxes of crayons. But we did get pretty excited over some glittery spirals! Love that Pledge of Allegiance. I've been trying to win one exactly like that on Ebay for two years!

  4. You did a wonderful job of pulling that all together! I love how everything has special memories for you, that makes it even better. We used to home school our children years back, brought back some nice memories. The world was a little slower then.I am already thinking Christmas with my crafting, I would love you to check out my blog and see what I will be having for a give-away soon. ~ Sara

  11. What a totally cute and adorable vignette!

    I’M FOND OF CERISE

For red my affection is great,
It’s puce and chartreuse that I hate.
    I’m fond of cerise,
    It makes a nice piece
Of clothing that looks just first-rate.

  17. I asbolutely LOVE your vignette!! It's just adorable!! And I love that you incorporated so many personal items that hold sweet memories. We homeschool too and one of the things I miss the most about my children attending a public school is the school supply shopping. It was always fun to see the new, cute pencils and bags we were going to buy. But, I try to make it fun for them, setting up neat pen and pencil areas in their room and letting them decorate their note books. I love your blog and plan to visit more often.
Hope your week is going well!

  22. This is so clever and so sweet! Just love the vintage look to it all! I have a few old school books - from a family that has lived here for a very long time! Fascinating! Just love it - you asked a while back how I knew so much about Victoria Magazine - much is culled from the pages and other information from editor's blogs, and I belonged to a group who shared info years back. Hope you have a great day!
