Spring Cleaning My Vintage Kitchen

spring cleaning, degreaser

I am working hard a little everyday to get my kitchen prepped for painting. I have been wiping down all the walls and while I am at it I decided to wipe all the cabinets down as well. They will be staying white but how nice to have a kitchen all clean and shiny. It is like a drug to me when I walk by something I just scrubbed clean and notice how bright and shiny it is.

Goodbye bandaid color walls. Hello Crystal River blue.

I wanted to add an update on cleaning your wood blinds with rubbing alcohol. I had some spots that were not budging up at the top under my curtains. The alcohol was removing some of the sticky stuff but I couldn't totally get them clean so I just took a damp rag, dipped it into some TSP and wiped the blinds with that. Wa-la! Removed everything.

Used diluted rubbing alcohol to clean my pot rack and it worked as a wonderful degreaser.

Sparkling clean cabinets. It's a good thing as Martha would say.

That color blue should make a huge difference in your kitchen! It will look really great up against your (now beautifully cleaned) white cabinets. I think the hardest part of a paint project is the "getting ready" part. Oh, and picking a color is hard for me too.

Girl, those cabinets actually do "sparkle"!! You almost make me feel lazy cause my cabinets could do with a good scrubbing too...I'll be watching for your newly painted photos. I'd love to be inspired.

Yes, I love cleaning my cabinets. I try to do a really good cabinet cleaning two to three times a year. It is something my housekeeper doesn't do very well.

Me again! I just read your post about the school vignette (I've been out of town for a few days) and I didn't realize (or forgot) that you homeschooled. I schooled my kids at home until high school. We are so glad we did, aren't you?

How nice to have such a clean kitchen; can'
t wait to see it after it's painted. Sadly, you've reminded me that I have a potrack that has probably never been degreased...think I'd better get busy!

Can't wait to see the walls. That color looks really close to the color on your little tile design. I'm sure it will look amazing.
