Autumn Light

As I am sure you can tell at times, I have the worst house for taking interior photos. My house sits east/west and in the middle of summer I get no light really streaming in my windows on the sides of my home. Just know I am very jealous of you all with good sunny windows.

But this time of year the sun drops down in the sky and I get nice light in my kitchen all day. I love the sun peering in the windows in autumn and winter.

Finally I get light illuminating the glass in my cupboards.

Color reflects so much brighter.

It cheers me to see the sun shining through. There is just something about the light this time of year. I have heard others mention this as well and I am in complete agreement. My poor dining room with no direct windows is still lacking in the warmth of sunlight.

If you ever wonder why all my photos in there seem yellow, now you know. How do you all overcome dark rooms in your photos? I have yet to conquer this.

Your kitchen, dining rooms look great. I love the sun coming in too, but my kitchen and dining room sit on the east side of the house plus we have large shade trees also. I have just given up trying to use natural light in this area of my house and let the flash take over. Otherwise the photos are just too dreary. I know everyone says no flash but this area is my one exception. Patty

I really like your collection of graters. I am also loving the autumn light. We get pretty good light coming into our kitchen and livingroom, and it is so cozy right now.

have a great week, Elaine!

Well, I have always thought your photos looked great! I love the idea of having a bit of a get together for us "older" blogging ladies. It would be a hoot!!

My house is the same way and what makes it worse is that their are two big old oak trees on that side that makes it even worse til this time of the year. Lovely pictures you have posted.

I am a person that needs light. I have three sets of french doors and our front door is has a huge piece of glass with two side lights...
Your kitchen is precious... I am one of those too, that loves the old trinkets sitting around...and I think your booth is way cool...my grankids would love it...
Enjoy your light while you have it...and have a wonderful day...

Shug

Hi Elaine,

I'm so happy to finally be able to catch up on your blog! I was having problems getting it to load and this morning I was successful! And how timely. I also have a house that's dark much of the time inside. I've struggled with the same thing. I have a sunroom that is the best spot to take pictures, but only at a certain time of day. So since I work during the week, I try to take as many pictures as I can on the weekend--at that certain time. It's really frustrating! I also try to take pictures outdoors on the weekend, but even then I mess myself up. Yesterday we went out to a pumpkin patch and I had forgotten to recharge my camera! I am interested to see what other people have to say. I really do find this the most challenging part of blogging.

I think your pictures are great!
Personally, I like pictures that look warm and not too white or bright.

I think your photos look great! I have the same problem...our house does face north/south but the patio cover on the south blocks out a lot of the sun...love your open shelves...very pretty!

You have such a cute kitchen and so many wonderful antique pieces. It looks great.

I know what you mean, I have a terrible time getting good interior pictures. I haven't solved the problem either.

Your kitchen is so pretty...I love the rustic addition of the graters. My house faces east and I get the morning sun on that side and then I love to take pictures in those rooms. When the sun slips over the house, I turn on every light I can! lol! Good luck!

Visiting from TTT...love your blog!
