On the Move

We were moving furniture around last night. Hubs and I get a burr in our pants and then just start moving things. Our kids think we are nuts but they are used to it.This desk was hubby's grandmothers. What do you think of it? It is sort of different but a great writing desk. I would like to paint it but for some reason feel guilty about it. I don't think it is worth anything as no one else in the family wanted it so that is how we ended up with it. Couldn't you see it in an antique white with some darling fabric on the seat in checks?

We had the red couch here before but never really thought it fit well so it is in the den now. We like to put our Christmas tree in here in front of the window so we are happy to have the couch moved. I have no desk right now of my own so I would love to have this little space for my paper goods and greeting cards. It has small little cubbies to hold supplies.

Here's an update on what we decided to do with the desk....Desk Update.

Little dry sink just gets moved wherever there is a hole. This room is so hard to decorate as the only wall has windows and the other wall the piano with four door ways on each side of the room.

  3. The desk is absolutely stunning. I love it. What a fabulous piece. I so agre that if you don't want it, I will gladly come and get it. Beautiful in front of the window. If it has the cubbies, it is perfect for you as a desk, what a treasure. Hugs, Marty

  5. The desk is gorgeous with all of that lovely carving! I think it probably is worth something, but since it is yours and yours to keep, you should do with it what will please you. I think it will look great in Heirloom white, even making those carvings stand out more. Perhaps with a small amount of stain rubbed in over the antique white paint, making the detail pop. Yes on changing the seat cushion too. Lucky you!!

  6. Oh my gosh, that desk! From a wood lover, please don't paint it. If you want to sell it, email me. Not sure I could afford the shipping, but email me anyway. LOL!

  14. That is just a beautiful little desk. I think you should make it your own! I agree with Ricki Jill, don't get caught up in the painting frenzy that is sweeping blogland. Not everything needs to be painted -- sorry, I just had to say that!

  20. I have to go see your update link, but that is a beautiful piece of furniture, Elaine! I think painting it is up to what suits your home and lifestyle, but I also think that not every piece needs to be painted. The details on it are really wonderful and I know that sometimes painting furniture really makes them show up better.
