That Didn't Last Long

In my earlier attempt to extend some much needed counter space, I had placed my mom's sewing table at the end of my counter but decided it just wasn't good here. So I decided to swap out with a butcher block that was in our service porch holding our dinosaur microwave that just won't break down.

This gives me some great additional work space. I like it much better plus a butcher block belongs in a kitchen.

The sewing table went into the service porch to hold the microwave that is twenty years old. I would love for it to die so I can get a smaller one but it just keeps on going.

Makes for a good spot to hold my metal picnic basket.

  1. Elaine, that old microwave might be emitting some waves that you do not need to be exposed to. I would imagine they are safer now. But I am totally biased as I do not have a microwave in one of my houses and manage just fine without it. Joe only heats coffe at the old house in the microwave and I think thats weird but he is beyond frugal.

  2. Hi Elaine, the butcher block looks cute in the kitchen. I agree with Olive, although I do have a new microwave and use it once in a while. I had an old one that lasted forever too! Hmmm, now I'm curious, "How long should you keep a microwave?'.

  4. We only use our microwave (newer model) to heat oatmeal and leftovers. It is in the way where it is now, but you have given me an idea where to relocate it and make room to move our fish aquarium into the family room :-)

  5. I have so much to say! First...I have my ancient old micro in the service porch right off the kitchen too! It is huge and old and ugly, but keeps on working great! I have gone thru several butcher blocks in my kitchen to aid in food prep as we have almost NO counter space in my old kitchen too! I love your block in the kitchen like that. On Saturday while antique shopping I nearly bought a metal picnic basket exactly like that but it was too pricey for me!

  6. That's a great piece wherever you put it. I had a microwave like that, hugh, and it just would not die. So, I just bought a smaller home and didn't have room for it anymore...As good an excuse as any to leave it behind in the old house!

  9. The problem lies in that 20 years ago appliances were made to last. Today everything is disposable. Go figure! Sell it! Hugs, Bonnie

  10. The butcher block looks great there, my mom had an OLD microwave one of the first ever made I think and it went on forever! She have it to me and I finally threw it away, it would not quit!

  11. The butcherblock is nice!
My first microwave wouldn't die either. I finally went ahead and stuck in the garage. I bought a smaller one. It was hard to get use to the smaller one.

  13. I definitely love the butcher block there. I also like the charm of that metal box on the sewing table.

Microwave that's 20 years old? That was us not long ago, except with a stinking almond refrigerator. UGH.

  14. why is it that the appliances we hate
    last forever

    and the appliances we love
seem to survive their warranties by only a week or so?

you could probably justify the expense of a new microwave by the energy that dinosaur consumes tho'

love the butcher block idea for more space

thanks for sharing at fridays unfolded!
