Farmhouse Kitchen Decor and Shelf

Farmhouse kitchen decor
I am always a little thrilled when the holiday stuff comes down and you can start fresh. A new year is dawning and surfaces have been straightened and wiped down. Putting back the everyday decor takes on a fresh new start. I don't sew or craft so to arrange things in my home is I guess my creative outlet. Changing things around and coming up with new ideas to display my cherished goodies is just down right a heck of a lot of fun. And when you find the right combo of this and that and you say, "wah-lah," it is so very pleasing.

I had intended to paint the kitchen in 2011 but never got to it. Only about half my painting jobs were completed. I won't be painting straight ahead but instead we will be focusing on doing some maintenance to our home and cars. You know how when it rains it pours kind of thing?

I have plenty of stuff already so who needs more stuff really? I did put out my thrift store yellow check thermos on my kitchen shelf. I love it!

  2. Ahhh it feels so good. I am just about finished too. Yesterday I spent the day doing the floors and dusting. Seems the house gets so dirty this time of year. Your little shelf is darling! Happy New year!

  3. I'm like you too. I don't sew or really craft things unless it's super easy. Most things I can con...up I mean convince my hubby to make for me. :) I just put the finishing touches on with paint. I love to rearrange things. If I had to pick the perfect job it would be decorating a shop or someone's home place. I do like to bake and scrapbook too.

I love the little touches of yellow with the red lidded jar in your display. I have a couple of little spots I like to change with the season. My Christmas is all still up but I'm itching to take it down and de-clutter. I hear ya about the real life stuff, it seems to happen at the worst time.

  8. I agree! I am so ready to put all the holiday decor away and start anew.

An old wives tale that has been passed down in our family is
don’t have your christmas tree up twice in the same year or you will have bad luck. Now, I am not one who believe in any wives tales but I do think this a cute “tale”.

  11. I just looked at the thumbnails and I thought oh, this looks like Elaine's! I love your style and that new little thermos. I had to come over and check it out. I like the color of your walls with all of your kitchen decor. We have many things that need taking care of before decor too. So, I will probably be doing lots of vignettes and maybe more food photography this year. Have a very Happy New Year and thank you for joining me for Home Sweet Home!

  12. I haven't started. My husband asked me last night when the 'deSantification process would begin'. I should have started Tuesday, probably tomorrow! It does feel good and it is fun to rearrange what you have - I have been working it out in my head though!
I hope you have a blessed New Year,
    Kathy

  18. I love your little thermos :) We took down our Christmas decorations too. I didn't put as many up this year, so it was much easier to take down. This may be the start of a new tradition :)
Happy New Year to you and your family!

  19. I love what you did with that shelf...perfect!!! As much as I hate taking the Christmas stuff down, I also love cleaning and redoing things around the house. I would love some new countertops...but the roof is leaking...dog needs to see the vet...kid needs braces..truck needs repairs... meanwhile,we will just enjoy what we've got!!
happy new year...I am so happy that I found your blot this year.

  23. Your shelf with vintage goodies looks great! I can sympathize with you -- we had a dishwasher leak that damaged the wood floor and carpet in an adjoining room -- not fun and NOT covered by insurance. . . . Guess we'll be doing a patch job.

  24. Isn't it amazing what a little rearranging of decor will do to make things look new?
My daughter rotates the kids' toys so that they don't get bored with what they have and I think the same holds true with the things we use to decorate our homes.
I'm coveting that yellow-checked thermos...I think it would look great in my yellow and blue kitchen! ;D

  25. Oh I love this little shelf. It is wonderful and your display is fabulous. Love that check thermos, how cool is that. I so agree, I have way too much stuff, so this is the year I am going to pair down. Not buying anything. Thanks so much for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty

  28. LOVE that yellow gingham thermos!
I have never ever seen one like it --- what a find.
It is good to put things back after the holidays and put a new face or a new spin on your old groupings, I agree!

Thanks sooOOO much for linking up and sharing your sweet kitchen shelf vignette!

Hope you will come back again next month on the first and share again!

    Best~
