Necessary Lighting

prim decor

I was in desperate need of lighting for the top of our piano. Have you seen the prices of lamps these days? I just wasn't going to pay full price for one. Remember my budget of $0 for decorating? I then remembered the  unused lamp squirreled away in the girls' room

My husband bought this lamp at Target about 15 years ago. The colors match perfectly. It isn't really very cozy looking but this room has some deeper colors and it goes really well.

And the price, perfect at $0. I guess this is a case of never get rid of anything cause you might use it again.

A thrift store mat covers a big scratch on this very very old piano.

I love the color of these candles but I dropped them and now this poor thing is broken. Uh-oh.

My old compote was my parents. Candle sticks from the Goodwill. More decorating on not even a dime.

It does look perfect there Elaine. Don't tell me to keep things...I am going to start regretting what I've given to Goodwill! Have a wonderful sunny day. Patty

I LOVE that lamp....it reminds me of the tiffany leaded glass lamps....looks very nice on the piano...and Im very jealous of those wood candlesticks, I use them in my crafting and I looked all over so cal for some before my last craft show and couldnt find any!!!!! I remember when thrist stores ALWAYS had tons of them...

It looks lovely! Another idea to cover the scratch on top of the piano is a pretty table scarf. :)

Well it looks cozy to me!
I like the way the lamp glows...right now we're getting a torrent of rain...and it's dreary. I have my lamps turned on too.

Your piano is decorated nicely for $0 dollars!

Don't you love to find something after shopping the house, that works perfectly in another room. And never spending a dime!! Looks great!!!

I love the lamp and think the whole vignette is lovely. I too am 'shopping' my home right now and spending $0 dollars! Hugs, Linda

It looks great! If the broken candle bothers you, could you tie a nice ribbon around it at the break and the bow would cover it? Maybe a ribbon in a slightly darker shade of the same color as the candle? Just a thought - I think it looks lovely. Our piano has nothing on top because my pianist husband thinks it's sacrilege to put anything on it LOL!!

Nothing better than shopping in your own home! I really lóve the compote! I'm following your blog for a while now, and although I know you've to live frugal, your way of living and your home are so happy, cosy and bright! I've read many frugal blogs (must think twice about spending my money too!), but most of them are a bit depressing. Yours makes me smile everytime!
Thanks for visiting my blog!

Hello Elaine,

Well, are you going to melt that broken candle and turn it into a votive?

Sometimes I think it is best to shop from the cabinets within our home. It all looks so pretty! Do you know I have the same nest and a very similar pedestal?

Have a sweet day,
Becky

It makes us really think hard and be even more creative when we have to do it on a $0 budget. It's a good thing, I think. Your decor is lovely! I have decided that once my gift card from a local thrift store is finished, it was a gift from my two youngest for Christmas, that I am not going to spend anymore money on decor or clothes. I will see how long I can do that. I used to do it for YEARS, but I don't have to now so I don't, or haven't.
You challenge me and I like that.
Hugs, Cindy

I LOVE the $0 budget idea.
The lamp looks very good in it's new place. Enjoy!

Looks great around there. I am definetly one that needs light. I love light!...have you tried lighting a match and melting the candle in the broken area. Then when the wax is softened...you press it together. This has worked great for me in the past.

It's very pretty there! I dropped one of my two ruby red candlesticks and broke it the other day. Made me sick.

That lamp is so pretty, Elaine. I cannot believe you were not using it! VERY pretty compote. :D I drop candles all the darn time, especially the taller ones. I love it that Pier 1 now has the shorter ones that don't fall as easily.

I giggled out loud when I read: "I guess this is a case of never get rid of anything cause you might use it again." Love your recycling!

Your vignette turned out great and the lamp is perfect. The mat underneath works so well with it, too. I love decorating with things from the thrift store, or with things that cost $0. Love your bird's nest. Hope you have a great Sunday.

Such a warm vignette. I love it all, the birds nest, the little water can and I really love the lamp. I found two sets of wooden candlesticks around Christmas time at a thrift store, and I love them!
