Creative ideas for toy storage. Toy organization.
Because our little one was learning to walk and because it was huge and ugly we got rid of our old coffee table. We went without for a couple of years. This year though I wanted something back in. You need a place for chip and dip during football games and to put your toes up while watching T.V.
Hubby brought in an old trunk we had in the garage. It ain't pertty to some but around here, beat up and bruised is all good with our kids and dogs.
Perfectly stores loads of her toys and I keep the latch done which she can't undo. I don't want her messing with the lid without me. Rotating toys is one of the genius ideas I read about many years ago. Kids don't play with what is right in front of them but bring out a toy they haven't seen in a while and it is like new. She has other things out all the time but loves to get in the trunk.
This is part of my goal of organization and storage ideas I posted about here.
What a great idea and room for LOTS of stuff! My favorite color is slate blue...looks like you have some of that color in your home! ♥
ReplyDeleteI love that she is unable to undo the latch on her own. Not only is it a safety thing but you can control what comes out and when. I love old and well worn, too. Patty
ReplyDeleteI love the look of the trunk Elaine. You are so smart to rotate the toys.
ReplyDeleteTrunks are a perfect toy storage solution!!! I have a large wicker basket trunk/coffee table in my family room that holds the gazillion toys I need for my work. It's so nice to have toys completely out of sight after hours.
ReplyDeleteGood morning!
ReplyDeleteActually I really love the look of the trunk. It really looks nice with your blue sofa which I love. Did you make the hearts and stars in the bowl? I have a bowl just like that. At the moment it does not have anything in it because my grandson kept throwing the balls I had in there.
Hope your day is great

I think the trunk matches the colors in your living room. I love the vintage and useful feel of it.
ReplyDeleteBeat up? I think not, I love how it looks, "worn and loved".

I have a blanket chest in front of my couch in the family room too, filled with toys for my grandchildren. I'll have to show it some time. I love old trunks and really like you quilted runner on the top.
ReplyDeleteWhen my kids were small we had a two story home. I bought a small toybox on wheels and kept it in the family room...
ReplyDeleteWhen it got filled up, I put all those toys away and they would get new toys...then I would cycle the first ones back into their rooms...it worked like a dream!!
One word - Brilliant!

Love the trunk. I have a very old Army trunk that is well worn and lovely that is used as a coffee table in our hearth room. The other great use for it in my home is its role as the storage spot for things that I warn that "if they don't get put away, they are going to disappear".
ReplyDeleteI love the trunk, it looks great!
ReplyDeleteI love your trunk coffee table. It's perfect!

I've been in the market for an old trunk to serve as a coffee table for awhile now. They aren't easy to find ... in good condition. I agree they make great two-purpose pieces.
ReplyDeleteYep! I agree! Great idea and the more "bruised and battered" the better that way if some one messes with it you'll never get upset over it. Yes and wonderful storage too!
ReplyDeleteI rotate my dogs toys too...same thing! They never catch on! LOL!
Elaine, what a great idea and especially to have a safety lock. Lots of toys can fit in there!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. I love the way it looks
ReplyDeleteI love the trunk Elaine! Perfect for storing toys too!
ReplyDeleteIn answer to your question...yes the hens can get somewhat chattery from time to time. But certainly no more so than a dog, or other animal.
This is such a cute and practical idea. It keeps the toys accessible but not strewn out all over the floor.
ReplyDeleteI would love it if you would come link it up at my Pinworthy Projects Link Party.
I love trunks for coffee tables. So useful for storing many things.

I think it is totally perfect! And I love your pillow with the stars! The whole room looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea. Plus it will help Princess Q with her chores! ;P

By the way....rotating toys is genius because kids get so overwhelmed with too many choices. Plus, if they haven't seen the toys in awhile, it is like Christmas!

I love "hidden" storage and old trunks! Perfect! Thanks for linking up to Fun Stuff Fridays this week!
ReplyDeleteAny project that hides the toys works for me! Great idea.
