Every once in a while I will notice my kitchen drain needs a freshening up. I like to freshen and clean drains the naturally.
I used to use bleach but my daughter is very sensitive to it permeating the house so I discovered a more natural approach years ago.
Vinegar and Baking Soda Drain Cleaner...
- Take some baking soda and white vinegar.
- Generously sprinkle the baking soda around and in the drain. About a 1/4 cup.
- Then pour about a cup of vinegar over the baking soda and watch it fizz. You will hear it fizzing all down the drain. Let sit for about fifteen minutes.
- Wash it all down with a pot of boiling water.
Baking soda and vinegar cleaning is fine for sewer and better than bleach for septic systems. Helps keep the drain nice and clear too and remove the smell from drains.
I like that way too.Good to remember :)
ReplyDeleteWe are septic. Thanks for the tip!!
ReplyDeleteFunny you post this today. I was doing the dishes this morning and I noticed that smell. I'm heading downstairs to do this. Cannot stand that smell. Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteSometimes those "old" remedies are the best. Do you know that this is also the natural cure for people that have gout or inflammatory issues..except you have to use organic apple cider vinegar and add cold water...lol...what you don't drink you can use to flush your pipes! xo Diana
ReplyDeletethis is my way too,
ReplyDeleteHello Elaine,

ReplyDeleteBaking soda and vinegar are inexpensive and home based cleansers we used at home too. I agree that both works even in our home.
ReplyDeleteOh I use this too!
ReplyDeleteand another thing. I can't remember if you make your own laundry soap or not... but I use a scoop of that to swish my toilet clean too! Instead of comet or bleach.
It sparkles!
