Vacation Ends

Spent some time viewing the Rogue Gorge. It is an amazingly beautiful place. They think it was created by a lava tube that collapsed over time. It is extremely powerful and dangerous. Sadly we saw a sign of a family looking for any signs of a boy that fell in taking a photo. There was a high fence but still folks take chances and I was so saddened to see the reminder.

Nature is my favorite type of vacation destination. I live in a big city urban area so we never choose to visit other large cities for vacation. We always head out for some natural beauty.

I always feel most restored and at peace in settings like this. How is it that I am a city girl?

I kept seeing such lovely places and saying how I could see myself living there. I love the wide open spaces.

After the gorge we went to Eagle Point Mill which was a delight. The owner has extensive collections displayed throughout the mill and I loved this rooster. Someone must have loved this Barred Rock to stuff him.

His collection of red wing pottery was the largest I have ever seen. They went up to 24 gallons and more.

The mill is worked daily and they have every sort of grain and flour you could want.

This is the mill store. More extensive collections I was drooling over. I bought several wonderful finds in his antique shop.Very good buys compared to CA prices.

This is only a part of the stores offering of goods you could buy.

Cutest antique shop I have been to in a long time. Can't wait to share my gorgeous blue ball jars. All of these goods sit on his porch year long. He has never had a theft in seven years. He has had money slid under the door for things folks buy. I was happy to hear of this as it gave me a good feeling that there are still places you can trust folks. I love Oregon. To me it is God's country and I would move there in a heart beat if given the chance. We are however firmly planted here for now so I choose to be happy here too. I had to reconcile these feelings a long time ago when my husband's job kept us here. It is far better to have him employed and doing well than for me to chase a dream. We still have some of the best weather here which allows me to garden year round and our proximity to gorgeous beaches and mountains is such a blessing.  So where is vacation taking you this year? Anywhere I must see?

  3. Hi Elaine, What a wonderful place to visit. Having been a northern Ca. girl who grew up in the suburbs, I know what you mean about yearning for the country. Hubby's job kept us in that area but we were able to retire and move to a small town in northern Colorado. Life is better here but I miss the beauty of the Ca. winters.
You also answered a question for me in this post-the numbers on the crocks-I never knew what they meant and I have three with #4,6 &8, now I know. Thanks
    Have a great weekend.

  8. The missing boy makes me shiver with sadness. It is beautiful country and I could tell by the photo how strong the current was in that gorge. Nature sure puts on a beautiful show, doesn't it? It is so good to "get away" occasionally and see different places. Have a great trip home.

  9. My favorite vacations are nature ones too. I like nothing better than hiking the woods, wading in a creek or being at the beach. Beautiful picture of the gorge. So sad that people don't take more care at places like this.

  10. and you still get to raise chickens! Sounds like you have the best of both worlds, although I'll admit that living surrounded by gorgeous nature is pretty wonderful. We take trips to the city. :-)

Your nature vacation looks lovely! and what fun it would be to go through that store!

  12. Beautiful pictures Elaine. We too have found our most pleasurable vacations out in nature, camping. No vacation for us this year - we will be making our move to CA and that will suffice. Ann

  14. Hi Elaine! I'm also a city girl and seeing those beautiful scenery is always a treat for me. More than the beautiful place, the company of your family also makes the entire experience the best. Glad to know you had a good time. Have a beautiful sunday!

  15. Hi Elaine, that vacation spot is something to put on our wish list! Isn't it funny that you live in California, dream of so many, yet you wish to go to Oregon? I have never been to the Northwest part of our country but I am anxious to go. Everyone seems to love it. If you have never been to the east coast I recommend it highly! The mountains are very different from the Rockies but beautiful in their own way. So glad you had a nice trip. Linda

  19. Hi Elaine!
I'm happy to see you made it home safely. What a treasure trove of wonderful memories you have created with your family!
I enjoyed the frighteningly beautiful photos of the Rogue River! It is such a rugged part of Oregon.
I'd love to know where the country store was that you visited. I could spend hours in a place like that with all it's rustic charm.
I hope you have a great week, my friend!
    Blessings,
    Carolynn
