Tweaking My Chicken Care

Today I am joining Cozy Little House for Tweak It Tuesday. So let's see. We are still baking under oppressive heat here in SoCal so I have had to take extra care of the chickens. Lots of wading dishes of ice water and flooding the planters for them to cool off in.
One of my Easter Eggers is laying these pretty blue eggs. Not sure which one yet.

What I am having to change up is watching them in the morning. One of my girls is laying a thin egg and dropping it any old place and the others are pecking it. Egg breaking and eating chickens are very bad. It is a terrible habit and I am trying to keep a close eye to see who it is and gather that egg quickly.
One of the girls layed a gigantic egg and it was a double yoker.

See my pretty egg tray. Love the colors.

Hubby and I enjoyed a breakfast of left over chicken sausage and eggs. The bright yellow color is wonderful.

We had some eggs given to us and there were about 4 blue ones in there. I'd never seen a chicken lay blue eggs. How cool!

Oh it still excites me to collect the beautiful eggs! I sure hope you can find the naughty girl who is egg dropping! I take the hose and give the ground a good wetting for them on days like this. Way too hot! Just miserable!!!

Hi Elaine! Oh, at first I thought the blue egg wasn't real! It's so pretty! Hope you catch the little booger chicken!
Be a sweetie,

I have a hen in isolation with pink eye that is breaking & eating her eggs. I haven't been able to catch her right after she lays. It's a little hard to do when I'm working a couple of days a week. I hope I can break her when she goes back into the coop! don't want my other hens learning this bad habit!

I can see that you are throughly enjoying your urban chickens!
The eggs are a beautiful site.

How very pretty the blue and brown eggs are, Elaine. Won't they be nice at Eastertime?
Stay as cool as you can...Our son and wife have a home in Ramona and they're dying of the heat, too!

That is wonderful! I love the blue. I'm jealous. I'm only getting brown.
But I do love the bright orangey-yellow yolks...not the anemic pale yellow you would otherwise be seeing in an egg...
congrats on the eggs.
We're getting lots of eggs now too. They are quite a bit smaller, but still tasty!

Hi Elaine,
I grew up with chooks in the back yard and I've never seen a blue egg before!
What do you feed them? Hope you find the egg-picker. I'm sure they love all the care you give them.
Have a good week

We were never that hot but the humidity was awful that seems to have broken. I have a friend who gives me eggs and there is always a blue egg or two in there.
Hope it cools down soon for you.

Do you remember a few years ago, maybe more now, it was in the triple digits for 3 wks here in So Cal? We lost 5 chickens in that heat wave. And their coupe was all in shade too. We don't have chickens now, and I miss them. Those yolks are awesome!

Those eggs and sausage look so good. I grew up on a farm and one of my chores was to gather the eggs. There is no comparison between a home-grown egg and one from the supermarket. Thanks for sharing.

Oh your eggs are SO pretty! That breakfast looks delicious too! I hope to be able to enjoy home grown eggs before too long! That's been a long time desire! :)

I agree that there is nothing better than farm fresh eggs. I get them from a coworker who has his own chickens.

I love the blue egg! We are new at raising chickens and have three Rhode Island Reds, one of which has started laying. We love getting fresh eggs too and hope to add a couple more hens.
