I am a Political Animal

I love election day!! My family and friends all know that presidential elections are like a drug to me. They know not to call me unless it is about the election and that I will be up all night if need be watching the returns.
It all started in college. I became a political science major and it has been in my blood ever since. If I had not had the privilege of being a wife and mother, I would have loved to live and die for a campaign and work tirelessly on one every four years. When I went to work for the Federal Government, the Hatch Act prohibited us from doing much of anything bipartisan, so I have been happily an observer.
It is discussion at the table every night of the year. My kids know all the issues and politicians from a very early age.
Would you have guessed this about me? It is true and I love this country and for the few short hours before returns come in, we all have the excitement of Christmas as we wait hoping our candidate wins. I have been known to even dress in black the day after when the outcome is not what I had hoped.
So celebrate with me, as an American, on this most wonderful of days in the United States. God Bless America!!

That does surprise me! Good for you. I use to love it too..stay up and watch the debates, conventions. In HS I got to go to IL Senate for 2 days and be a student senator, even passed a generic drug bill. My HS history teacher even wrote in my year book, "don't for get me when are Director of HUD" Worked on a campaign too.
But now with my husbands business so bad and life harder than years past, I just want it over.

But I appreciate your enthusiasm, wish I still had it.

Thanks for the great post, Elaine. You have described so many homes across the nation. We have always talked politics on a regular basis around the dinner table, in the car, or out walking. It is a privilege and a responsibility we cherish.
Have a great day...and, hopefully, you won't be wearing black anytime soon.
Blessings,
Carolynn xo

This is a very interesting election. I live in Belgium, so I'm nothing more than an observer. But I love to watch CNN nowadays.

I'm a political junkie and wish more people cared enough to be informed, instead of taking it as truth from whatever media outlet is out there. It pays to research things for yourself, then make your own decision about things.

We voted early and with pride! So happy to live in the great USA!

Surprised me too! But I now know more about you. You were a political science major. I took a lot of political science classes. Hope for you that your candidate wins so you don't have to wear black tomorrow. I'm sitting here watching CNN, and will be until I know.

Wow, I wouldn't have guessed that about you! Good to know, though :) I voted today and felt proud. Thankful for the women before me who fought for my right to vote!

What fun to find that out about you! I can't say I am a political junkie, but I haven't missed a vote since I turned 18 and I am vitally interested in who wins.

I voted early. I'll just be really glad when it's OVER. If I never have to hear/see/read another political ad it won't be too soon....

I voted a month ago from abroad..I stayed til late to watch the elections, although I like politics, mostly for the love of country..so I'm always so disspointed, I'm not lucky with my candidates, here in Ecuador, or even the USA. Anyhow, bless America, it's gonna need it!
Big hugs,
FABBY

Doesn't surprise me at all Elaine! I am proud to be American. Proud and honored for the right to vote.
My guy did not win. However, I have much respect for the President, and pray for the decisions he makes as he leads our country.
I wore my red, white and blue all day, and my "I voted" sticker proudly!
