Thanksgiving Check

I am all set for Thanksgiving except for a trip to the store this morning.

I literally have a fear of crowded grocery stores and avoid them like the plague.

So for as far back as I can remember, I have always done my Thanksgiving grocery run the Monday morning prior.

No crowds and everything well stocked. I do enjoy this shopping though. Everyone with their Thanksgiving fixins tucked in their carts. Such a wonderful family holiday.

  2. Good for you! That's probably a very good idea. I keep a running idea in my head of what I have and what I need - and make a last minute dash for what's missing from the mental list. :-)

Elaine, Be sure to stop in at Cranberry Morning and enter my HomemadeSoapnSuch Christmas Giveaway! :-)

  3. I drove past Walmart this morning around 10 and thought about going in to do my Thanksgiving shopping, but the parking lot was crammed so I thought I'd wait. Now I realized the parking lot can only be worse, right?! Haha, I'll get it done, one way or another - I am a last minute kind of girl but not because I like the crowds!

  4. Hi Elaine,
Like you, I really hate the crowded stores. I did the majority of my shopping this morning too-was at the store at 9am-sailed right through. Just need to run out for some fresh veggies/fruit/flowers Wed.-early! Now I'm going to do the prep work over the next few days and do my baking-peaceful in my house-Away from the crowds!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

  5. I just got back from my shopping trip. Too many folks fighting for the last 20 pound turkey if you want till Wed. Less stress and a happy cook.
    blessings to you.

  13. I can't do crowds at all. I went this morning and got what I needed. I even shop where it isn't as crowded anytime. I won't be at the malls till after Christmas now.

  18. I love your pictures, especially the figurines. I just returned from the grocery - my husband and I have made 3 trips so far - keep adding to the list! I love seeing everyone filling up their carts. I feel so happy and talk to complete strangers - I was grabbing a can of cherry pie filling at the same time as a guy and said, "Making some cherry pie too?"

  20. Elaine, you have some of the best Thanksgiving and fall decorations! I love the pumpkin candles in the muffin tin and your collection of rolling pins, too! It's all so cozy. I love grocery shopping for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I'd rather not be at the store in the height of the bustle, but sometimes I like knowing that we're all there for the same reason... To buy things to cook for the ones we love!
    Happy Thanksgiving!

  21. Indeed you have the right idea..I couldn't go today but wl get to the gro shopping tomorrow [tues] the 11th hour shopping scene just disturbs me..actually I begin to see sad situations with ppl that tug at my heart so maybe early gives me a way of escaping these.

Enjoy your loved ones and just keep on BEING THANKFUL..

  25. All of your fall decor looks so prim perfect, Elaine! I love it all! We do have simliar styles, don't we? I could see me with any of those things! :)

I'm never the one to do the Thanksgiving dinner as we go to AL every year where all my extended family is from, so I don't do the shopping that way. However, believe it or not, I am one of those Black Friday shoppers. Only because I'm there with family and we have such a good time getting out early, having lunch, and just having a good ole time with just us girls! :)

    Blessings...Happy Thanksgiving!

  26. Hi Elaine!
I, too, am an early shopper. Crowds and flaring tempers are not my cuppa tea. I bought my turkey over the weekend and am happy to have him thawing in the fridge.

I love your warm and cozy home and it's touch of Fall and your happy little pilgrims. Your little Q must love them, too!
Have a wonderful family time as you celebrate and give thanks.
    Blessings,
    Carolynn xo

  29. I hate fighting the crowds and meant to get the grocery shopping done yesterday but was too tired to go. Just got back from the city this evening...should've gone yesterday! :/
I try to stay away from the stores on Black Friday and the weekend following. I don't care how good the sales are! LOL
    Love your vignettes...Happy Thanksgiving!
