The Chickens are Laying

Hello you beautiful gal.You have to love a pet that coos and clucks at you when you work in the garden and leaves you wonderful gifts to feed your family.

We even gathered a double yoker this week. That makes for some rich scrambled eggs.

I love to see them doing their chicken things. Finding the perfect spot to settle down and lay a gorgeous egg for us. My little one can head out there now and collect the eggs for us. She has still not forgiven me for giving the other two hens to my friend Kris but I told her one day we will get some new chicks. It will be hard to resist when I head to the feed store this spring. Pipping little chicks are very attractive. You just want to hold one and then bring it home. We will see if I am strong and resist the temptation this year.

When I put fresh hay in the coop or run I just dump it in one pile and they spread it neatly all over. Chickens are cool like that.

Awwww your chickies are so cute. I have 5 plymouth barred rocks and I love them. My little road island red is adorable too. They are taking a break from laying. I think it's the gloomy weather and no sun. Hopefully, soon they will be leaving our family their little gifts every morning ~ Have a great day

Yay!!! Glad they started laying again. I've only received one double-yolker in 3 years so I'm envious! I think they are so neat.

The first photo is so beautiful! What a pretty girl. Congrats on the eggs :)

I love our chickens too. Right now we have 5, lost a few to a predator. But this spring we will get a few chicks. Can't wait!

Such a pretty lady!! Love the black and white feathered hens!! Have NEVER gotten a double yolk egg. Are they bigger??? OUCH! Also, are they twin chicks if one is a double yoke and fertilized?? Would be awefully squishy in the egg!

so cute and they make their own beds! :)

I love my chickens too. I'm not supposed to have them here, but we do and nobody is any the wiser. Just had to give away a rooster, because he would be too noisy! My chickens took an almost 2 month break from laying and we feared they were done, but now they have started up again. I'm so happy. I love seeing those beautiful brown and beige eggs!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Hugs,
Julie

Oh I do hope Q will not be forever mad, and for heavens sake, we must keep our secret safe from her little ears about what happened. I will be getting new chicks very soon. 6 I think!!!
Love chickens...and can't believe I waited so long in having them. They bring me such joy!!!
A double yoker...wow...how fun!!!

Your girls are beautiful! I have three hens and a rooster, and want 3 more hens this year. They are so relaxing to be around. I love all the little noises they make.

Have a great weekend!

Chicks are always so cute, but then you have to factor is how much more yard/coop space you'll need, feed prices, etc. I'm happy with our 4 in our urban coop, just right for eggs for 2, give some to the kids and sell the rest...

Yay, let's hear it for the girls. There is nothing like those fresh eggs! One thing I DO miss in the country, our neighbors there were bringing me a dozen every week or so, I miss them! :D

Your Chickens are so beautiful and so are your photos, including the eggs with such pretty golden yokes.

I love Barred Plymouth Rocks. If I had more space for large fowl, I would definitely have a bunch of Barred Rocks.

I also have a hard time resisting the baby chicks at the feed stores. The one closest to me gets new ones in every Wednesday and I always take a peak when I am in there, just to see what they got in, of course.

I miss our chickens. Maybe when my husbands back is healed we can get some new ones. I sure miss those eggs. We were never lucky enough to get a double yolk but those eggs taste so much better than store bought. Store bought eggs look rather sickly.. Your chickens are beautiful :)

Yay, for your ladies coughing up some eggs. I'm only getting one or two a day from five chickens in this extreme cold.

Love your chickens!!! Wwish I could have some, but there are so many wild critters that live in my yard, I fear their days would be short-lived here.
Thanks for sharing yours with us.

My daughter, etal, just got 6 baby chicks, the kind that lay pastel eggs. I think she is very excited to have beautiful eggs!
