Tomato Plant Gift Idea

I wanted to give a friend one of my surplus tomato plants I grew from seed as little extra birthday gift. It is so easy to dress one up if you save the cool tomato cans from the Italian market like I do. The cans are so colorful. I love all the graphics.

This is a perfect gift for a fellow gardener and a gift that keeps on giving once the tomatoes ripen. You could even print up some tomato plant care tips for a novice gardener.

I just gathered a tomato seedling I grew in an an old nursery pot, am empty tomato can and a piece of red tissue paper. That's it. Wrap the tomato plant in the tissue paper and tuck into the can and there you go you have a very fun tomato planter.

  5. super idea for a gift and a way to "wrap" it. something else i do ... when i put together planters for family graves on memorial day, a tomato plant is a star in the one for my parents' graves (among other things, i sooooo miss my dad's garden tomatoes....)and the ones for two cousins who were big tomato gardeners.
