Blogging the Sunny Simple Way

Some people have asked over the years how I find time to blog while doing all the other things I share on my blog. Kids, animals, family, gardening, are some of the things I spend time doing and somehow manage to get a post up daily. So here is the answer. I blog on the fly. I rarely plan blog posts, I just look at photos I have snapped during daily life and pic a topic. I may work on some posts longer than others but usually it is a straight session of loading pictures and writing the post.

As for photos. I rarely ever edit them. I just don't have time for this step. On occasion I will edit a photo but mostly I just load straight onto the blog. What you see is real life so the pile of laundry in the back ground just stays in the photo. I love the gorgeous photos I see on other blogs and maybe my lack of good quality photos holds my blog back. I have no idea but it doesn't really matter to me. I just want to connect with others and blog the way I live in what I call organized chaos. Sharing tips that have helped me and things that I just plain enjoy. If it ever is not fun any longer, I will end this journey.

Some of my favorite blogs that I make sure to never miss a post are just basic life filled blogs. That is what I am drawn to. Simple ways. I have often wondered where I fit in the blog world as I most certainly am not a craft blogger, not really home decor and not a particularly good cook just a basic one. So I think I am a "life" blogger. One who shares her life. My ways of doing this and figuring out how to do that. If it is something that has helped me or makes my life easier I love to share it.

If you are a new blogger than definitely follow the rule many have shared that imitation may be a form of flattery but it does not work in the blog world for longevity. Blog your life. Blog things that are beautiful to you. Share things that have moved you and bring joy to you. If you love it chances are others will to. Let your life be your blogging guide. I never over think or plan much. I am glad to have this hobby that brings me far more than I have ever imagined, a connection to women that brings me great joy every day I log onto Sunny Simple Life.

  6. Elaine- I think we are kindred spirits. I am just like you- I snap the shots and don't do much editing (because I don't know how and who has the time). I like your post because it is real and down-to-earth. Blessings to you-I love visiting you and am so happy that I don't get that stupid warning I used to get when I visited your blog. Have a great Monday- xo Diana

  7. How very true! Some of my favorite blogs are those that are natural and easy. Yes I love looking at stunning shots but believe that a blog is a window into someone's real life and once they get too contrived, the magic is gone. I post when I have something to share, not every day otherwise it wouldn't be fun. Thank you for voicing this, hugs Sally xx

  9. I'm with you on this. I get emails about increasing my readership, but that's not what I'm after. I enjoy making actual connections with others. And being inspired by those who craft and crochet. I don't do any digital imaging. Time is limited. I mostly just go with the flow. Have a great week! Tammy (P.S. the bag of Robin's Eggs I opened are almost gone and I'm giving the last one away as I've had waaaayyyy too many :/

  10. I love you and your "life" blog. Writing my series is pure time killing torture for me and no pics are involved but I feel it necessary for my kiddo and my sister to know it. I do everything else pretty darn fast because I am speedy and need to be out side. Now as for editing pics I consider that to be fun, fun, fun til my daddy takes my T-Bird away.

  14. Girl....I love this Post!!

I am definitely a "Life Blogger"
The strange thing is, that I really do have talents when it comes to crafting, decorating, and flower arranging. These things have always been my "Thing" in life, but no so much anymore.

I barely have time to keep my blog going, much less, craft. I have noticed that so many bloggers are leaning in that direction, but I guess I'll just have to keep on trucking along about life, like I have been doing!

  17. What a great post! I don't have time for setting up perfect picture shoots and editing my pics. I tell myself I'm showing them how to do something specific, not how to be a photographer. Just as well on that one, too! lol

  18. Perfect advice Elaine. I've always sort used the same quidelines myself. I'm not too much into staging, but I sure enjoy looking at those beautiful blogs that do. I started my blog to just keep family and friends up to date on what's going on in our life and also to remember certain times past, present or ones to come.

  19. I blog on the fly too! IF I planned in the past, I goof up. I usually don't even do my copy cat posts for my challenge til the day or two before. Today for instance I looked through every magazine in Walmart for inspiration. NOTHING popped. I walked away and said I will wait a few days before. It works for me.

  23. Elaine, I think you should continue doing what you have been doing because it works! I love your blog! I blog on the fly, too. Life is too full and busy for me to do it any other way.

  24. Well....you know that I am your biggest fan, and you are one of my bestest bloggy buddies....and I think it is interesting that you and I approach blogging completely differently....which is odd because we share most of the same values.... ;P

But I make lists and plan EVERYTHING!!! That's probably why God only gave me two kids! THe word spontaneous scares me!

By the way...take a look at the new issue of Real Simple Magazine.

  25. PERFECT! I see a lot of us are like minded...I told a "blog buddy" once that I have no idea why anyone would want to read what I write as my life is not interesting..she said, "your life might not be interesting, but the way your mind works sure is" LOL..That was one of the nicest compliments ever...
I love how interesting your mind is Elaine!(and in your case, your life is as well :)

Your blossoms are beautiful! I like your "Keep it Simple" philosophy.

  28. You have struck a cord dear friend. I have read a post someone created thinking along the same lines you just shared. Blogging is a journey of discovery and finding your own voice - the greatest joy is to meet others sharing their lives and know - you have many Kindred Spirits who are just trying to do the same as you - cherish your life!
Thanks for sharing this beautiful post!
    Hugs,

  29. Well...I love your blog and that's how I blog too and that's what I'm interested in....just regular people living regular lives...and connecting to them. Like chatting over the backyard fence or sharing a cup of coffee and recipes. To me blogging is like different neighborhoods and you find the ones you can most relate to feel a part of and even though you're miles and miles away I feel like we're "neighbors" and friends! Thanks for sharing your life with us!

  31. I'm sorta like you... I don't seem to fit into a "category" either. I do border my pics, but keep the posts short and only do 2-3 a week. It's the only way I can keep up with a full time job, family and friends, home to take care of etc...

  32. Hi Elaine,
Your style of 'Life Blogging' and writing is wonderful. thanks for sharing your 'method' of posting. I've often wondered how you can write so many posts...I seem to run out of time.

  33. Hi again Elaine,
Adding to my previous comment......I run out of posting time because I like to visit and comment on the blogs I like. I like to say something more than 'nice post' and that's where my time goes. Maybe I talk too much...lol
    God Bless

  34. Thanks I'm a newbie and don't really have a "theme" for my blog either. I don't have time to craft or even cook or make tablescapes (although I love looking at everyone else's) my blog is just me and the things I love. Well said.
