The chicken coop garden is coming along. I have placed little bits of color here and there until the zinnias and sunflowers I planted bloom.
I actually use the coop nesting boxes now to store my gardening tools and gloves. I started the black eyed Susans from seed months ago. They are abloom for me now.
Even though I get afternoon shade, the garden gets loads of sun for most of the day.
I am picking cucumbers already. The old fence for the run is perfect for climbers.
My old chickens left me some wonderful soil. As you can see the veggies are thriving. My compost bin is cooking away wonderful black gold for the garden. I make a pot of compost tea with it daily and pour around on the plants.
That looks great! Good re-use and making the best of a disappointing situation. It's actually easier to have a beautiful coop without real chickens, lol.
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful thing to do with your chicken area. I love the fence you have around it. And, how it's working so well for your climbing/trailing veggies. :-)
ReplyDeleteYour coop area is really nice. I love the green fence for he cucumbers to climb.
ReplyDeleteThat looks lovely. What a wonderful place to spend puttering.
ReplyDeleteI've never grown cucumbers on a fence but that is an excellent idea.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks wonderful Elaine.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how well your cukes have done.
Ours didn't do so well. That fence makes a wonderful trellis.
I'm hoping to have a second chance at gardening in the Fall.
I'm curious how you make your compost tea...I've made manure tea, thanks to the cows in the back pasture...but not sure how to make compost tea.
If you done a post maybe you could include a link...or if not, then maybe a future post. Thanks! ...the only thing to make your coop better would be fresh eggs daily. Always sorry for the situation.
Pat
You have made lemonade out of lemons! The coop is such a pretty backdrop for the flowers and plants now :-)

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful spot. Perfect for a veggie garden.
ReplyDeleteSo I'm missing something here!! I hope it was by choice that you no longer have chickens? The soil for your garden should be awesome with all the past chicken droppings!!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome. I was just wondering where you got the green fencing---it's beautiful.
