I like to have something flowering in my yard at all times. I of course would love to just spend whatever and fill every pot, but I am trying to make some constructive changes in the way I garden.
Every year I re-plant quite a few pots on my back patio. This year I am doing things a little different. I want to grow more food in pots and less flowers. If I am going to spend the money, I want it to be on something we can eat if at all possible.
But there will always be room for the just plain beautiful like the ranunculu above. My jasmine is blooming right below my bedroom window so I love to keep the window open all night to smell the wonderful fragrance.
This fountain has become a planter. The pump was taken out and used to replace a broken one in the front yard. I chose succulents because this wall gets very hot and they don't require as much watering.
The benefit is these will grow for years and you don't have to replant every season. Tomorrow I will share the more practical changes I have made for what's more beautiful than a vine ripened tomato or cucumber ready for your supper salad.
Please don't tell me you had energy to garden yesterday? I was still in recovery mode from our shop till you drop day on Saturday! It looks beautiful. I'm going outside to clean up some more today. Have a great day. Patty
ReplyDeleteEverything is looking gorgeous. Our yard is a total mess, really needs a ton of work. Can't wait to see all of your changes. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI am way jealous of that Jasmine! What a perfect location for the scent. Need warmer weather up north soon! Great post!
ReplyDeleteI am sooooo ready to start digging in the dirt!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great with the succulents and I need to do that on my front porch as it faces South and it's brick and it gets REALLY hot down here in the summer! Those are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHappy Official Birthday my friend. I am going to get outside today to work on my flower pots. Its the perfect day seeing as I am ALL ALONE! Yipeee......
ReplyDeleteSmiles,
Debbie
Oh to have a jasmine that could grow outside all year long...what a wonderful scent that has.
ReplyDeleteLove the succulents in the fountain, very lovely.

Wow. The only things blooming in my yard are a few crocuses and overnight they got covered with SNOW! Our planting/blooming season is still several weeks away and it sure is nice to see these photos of your beautiful yard. :)
ReplyDeleteSomehow I think I missed your birthday, so Happy Birthday Elaine!!! I am a bit jealous, I have to say, that you are able to have plants and flowers year round! In a state with 4 distinct seasons, that's impossible here in the Bluegrass! Your garden is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Leslie :)
Elaine, the succulents in the fountain are gorgeous. I have many succulents and sedum all over the place too because they survive our mild winter and require no effort. Our Catholic Thrift store, which I just discovered has lovely low prices and the nicest volunteer staff. It is my go to place when yard sales are scarce. Plus they use the money for charity.
ReplyDeleteThe succulents are beautiful in the fountain. Absolutely beautiful. I may need to take your idea. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love the way that fountain looks, amazing!!! I love suuculents...they are so easy!!! cant wait til tomorrow to see what you have done!!!
ReplyDeleteThe fountain planter is really sweet. For the last few years, I've been perennials in my planters and then moving them to the gardens at the end of the season. ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteEverything looks wonderful Elaine! I admit, I am jealous that you get to be out in your garden! :) Keeps posting photos!

There is nothing like laying in bed at night and smelling the Jasmine through an open window. Ours will be blooming in about a month! Ann
ReplyDeleteThe fountain looks so nice w/the succulents in it. I'm going to do a horse trough planter for my herbs and I've been researching what I'll need to do it. Saw one in Sunset one time at a B&B where they grew all their herbs in them and they were beauitful.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Elaine! I am on the same wavelength as you with planting! Hope you are having a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteYour gardens always make me drool! Those succulents are so pretty too. Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteHow nice that you have a garden in March. Sounds like you are making some very frugal changes. Good for you.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Cindy
I love that beautiful yellow flower. I've never heard of it before and need to see if it can grow in our area or even if it is available!!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing how your new planting plans come about. I love fresh veggies and to have them right outside your door is an even greater bonus!
Hello Elaine,
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful to be able to have flowers year round - I like your idea to put edible plants in pots near the house - I am looking at container gardening at the moment - will consider this! Love your succulents in the fountain - looks terrific! Thank you for sharing with A Return to Loveliness,
Kathy
All of your plantings are beautiful! You've inspired me to plant succulents in my flower window boxes!
