My Closet - Don't Be Shocked

Simple Closet Organization
I am sure you have gathered that my motto is simplify. If you've noticed it seems half my posts are simple this or simple that but it is what this blog is about. I am a simple gal.  Now, I love to see other people's closets and pantries and stockpiles just like any other gal, so I thought I would share my closet, such as it is. In an effort to de-clutter and again simplify my life, last year I decided to get rid of 70% of my clothing. I, like a lot of people, had things that were years old and I never wore, but just seemed to hang onto. I also stopped working so I no longer needed a wardrobe for the office.
Our 50s ranch has very little closet space so we had a wall of built ins put in our room several years ago. My hubby uses two of the closet spaces and I use the other. I am a jeans and t-shirt gal with a few cute tops thrown in for necessary occasions.

I know, not very neat nor organized but I can see what I've got. I am just not that into clothes and would rather spend $100 at the nursery than the mall. Just me! Scary huh? Also, I am very careful about what I buy now. I am striving to be very purposeful in my spending and only replace what I need to, and make sure I try on and love everything that comes home with me. No more buying because I thought it was a good deal or looked cute on the hanger, only to go to Goodwill. I would rather have the money now than the old clothes I gave away, hardly worn or never used.

I do have this high boy for storing my foldables but that is pretty much it. Our coat closet holds a few jackets and sweaters, but you don't need many of those in Southern California. Are you shocked?

  1. I am in the process of doing a big purge in the closet too. I would so rather take 100 dollars and go to Home Depot that buy clothes!!!

  2. I'm not really shocked because I'm one of the few people I know that have empty drawers and kitchen shelves not in use. Just not too into buying stuff. When hubby wanted to retire at age 55 he said to do whatever I had to to make us debt free. It was a rough 5 years but we did it & learned a lot of lessons on the way. I made a sign that said "Simplify, don't buy so we can retire". It worked...lol...

  4. The clothes horse in this house would be my husband. Hardly a day goes by that I don't get some package of something he's ordered in the mail. Me, I'm like you: rather spend it at the nursery!

  5. I love the tall boy it's beautiful. I just did a clean sweep of my clothing too. People say you only wear 10% of your clothes anyways.. I believe it.

  6. I truly understand! My hubby retired last year and we decided to purge! I got rid of so many clothes that were just 'hanging'! I do feel better and it's so much easier to keep my closet looking good.
Thank you so much for popping in to see me.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  7. Have you heard of Project 333? The idea is to choose and wear 33 items for 3 months. I've been paring down my closet and plan on participating in April. I'm surprised to find that 33 items is about what I'm actually am wearing and don't think it will be too hard to stick with that!

When I pared down and organized my closet and my husband's last July and put all the clothes away with the hangers hung backwards. This week, I pulled out everything I haven't touched since then, knowing that if I haven't worn it since then, I likely won't wear it again.

  8. That is amazing...70% - how cool - love that idea of the 333 project above as well - what great ideas! This year I've really been trying to be good...but now, perhaps I have to think a little more :)

  9. You have some good ideas, and so do the other ladies. I would rather wear jeans also. It really cuts down on the amount of clothes needed, when we realize our style. My problem spending runs to craft supplies and plants. Oh, man!

  10. Wow that's impressive to cut down your wardrobe by 70%. It looks so neat and tidy, and I bet getting dressed in the morning is so much quicker and easier!

  12. I must admit I am in the process of doing this myself. Though I think I only have half the clothes most people has. I've got 3 jeans, 1 twill and one nice pair of pants for example and of course 2 pairs of tights to wear under dresses. Still I feel like I have too much and that I don't even wear half of it. I think this will be the perfect project for today. Thank you for sharing.
