Simple Valentine's Decor
Late late afternoon, almost dinner making time and all my little lights I have on timers click on. I am just a sucker for the soft glow of little lamps and strings of lights.
A soft glow from the lights and fading light coming in from the windows. Daylights last reach indoors.
View peeking in from the front porch. I think our homes are like another member of the family. You grow to love them and they become a part of you. When we said goodbye to my parent's home of over 50 years, I just balled and felt like we lost another family member. I still miss it and the sounds and smells. The warmth and security I felt there. Ironing day, oh is there a better smell and my dad barbecuing on the weekends. It was a wonderful simple house that I hold very dear in my heart.
My husband teases the kids if they don't get the holiday lights on before dark. He threatens to put you on the list. Not sure what list as I have never seen one but he still tells us we are on the list. I guess he figures if he hangs them we should go through the trouble of turning them on.
Ha! The list... I love it.
ReplyDeleteWhat my late MIL so eloquently referred to as 'The DIRT List'.
You didn't want to be on it!
Your home looks so cozy with the lights lit...
Pat
Good morning, Elaine! Oh, what sweet little softly lit vignettes!
ReplyDeleteThe list, huh? LOL That's cute.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Beautiful thoughts on home Elaine and great shots of that special pre-dinner hour. Patty
ReplyDeleteSo welcoming! Mind if I just come and sit for awhile? I won't be any trouble! Great pictures!
ReplyDeleteCute! I too form deep attachments to the homes I have lived in. So much more than a place to me! Love the lights! I also have little lamps everywhere!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the other ladies: cozy, warm and welcoming, you have that down to a science. That is what I aspire to achieve in my own home. Sigh, I'm working on it.
ReplyDeleteYour story about your parents house really touched me. For me, it was my grandparents. I can still smell Grandad's pipe smoke and Nanner's spaghetti sauce. Their house had a welcoming and cozy feel too. I miss it so much.
I have been meaning to tell you that I am completely in love with your curtains, by the way. Where did you ever find them and why is it so hard to find kitchen curtains worth having these days?
Looks so warm and cozy. Love your lights at dusk! Love, the red heart. Very sweet.
ReplyDeleteI agree theres nothing that makes a home cozier than soft lights, and candles ....just something about it!!! matter of fact Im working on a valentines lighting project myself...better get busy...lol...
ReplyDeleteyour home is so lovely!!!
Where I live now ...I have lived the longest(20 years). My parents were on a constant move and I have no real memory of a childhood home...I do have a memory of an old home we lived in for about a year when I was 12...I loved it and the little town it was located in...if I had a childhood home that would be it. Your memory sounds wonderful. Your soft lights are soothing ...I love such lights as well...but,my favorite or my old oil burning lamps. Blessings Elaine
ReplyDeleteIt's all so pretty! I love lighting candles and soft lights in the evening. All the imperfections are gone and peace reigns. ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteI love the soft lights and how they make the house so warm and comfy. I am going to have to get timers. That's a great idea.
ReplyDeleteOh all of your vignettes are so pretty and so remind me of home and the lights are like icing on the cake. Beautiful. Thanks tons for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteHi Elaine! I love all your little lights!! I have many of them myself, I like one in each window... "welcome" lights! I never thought to put them on timers! Every evening I go around and turn them all on, then before I go to sleep I have to go around and turn them all off!! Geesh! It wears me out just thinking about it!! Have a great night! Deanna
ReplyDeleteNo place like home for great memories.
ReplyDeleteYour "low glows" warm my heart!

I love turning off all of the lamps in the evening, and just having the little strings of lights and those candle lights on. Such a soft, cozy feeling!
