I was so thrilled to find this recipe on ehow. I use a lot and I mean a lot of stain remover and the coupon deals have just not been there so I went in search of a recipe for one I could easily make. Now I try to keep things as natural in the house as I can but when it comes to laundry stains, I have to use the big guns with a lineman husband and a four year old.
This stain remover works GREAT!! I just cannot imagine buying premade again. It takes out blood from my daughter's scrubs and all manner of stains from the lineman. I even got chocolate milk out of a shirt today that Q managed to spill right after I told her to please not spill anything on her good shirt. Isn't that always the way?
So here it is:
Homemade Laundry Stain Remover
1 part Ammonia
1 part dish soap ( It called for Dawn but I had Joy, worked fine)
1 part water.
I just mixed in an old stain remover bottle.
Edit to add that I spray on and toss in on mild stains but I bring out the big scrub brush for tough stains. And a WARNING do not mix with bleach. Ammonia and bleach make a reaction that is very bad so I do not use this in a bleach load.
wow, thats grteat to know, wish i had that a few years ago! I still obsess with stains, its like a personal challenge, i just must get them out.I will try this, thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteOh, this is a great one! Do you apply and let it sit or throw it right into the wash?
ReplyDeleteThis is a great recipe. Lately, I'm not spending money at the store on stain remover or laundry soap. Saves a bundle! How are the chickens this morning?
ReplyDeleteI'll try it and get back to you. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great tip! I just love these kind of things. Thanks so much!

I use the dish soap all the time, have never tried ammonia with it. If it is a greasy stain, I just squirt dis soap on it, let it soak awhile, and then wash as usual. Most time the stains come out.
ReplyDeleteIf you have a bad blood stain you can also pour hydrogen peroxide on it, cover it w/the peroxide, and it will come out in the wash. But this looks great, will definitely be making it. The price of this stuff for the more popular ones is atrocious! Thanks much!
ReplyDeleteI am saving this- I make my own laundry detergent but not my own stair remover. Thanks-xo Diana
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for getting things cleaned! I'm a new linky followed, it would be great if if you followed back at www.iheartpears.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI have used this formula for years. It works great! One word of WARNING though. Never ever mix anything containing ammonia with bleach. It can cause a poisonous gas that can kill almost immediately! Most of us moms already know this but if you have teenagers or others that sometimes help with laundry, make sure they are aware of this DANGER!
ReplyDeletegreat tip! Thank you for your bloggy friendship and for sharing at the Thursday Favorite Things Blog Hop Linky Party, xo

question: sooo, if I use this stain remover on an item, I do not want to throw that item in the washer if I am planning to pour in liquid bleach? Just want to be sure.
ReplyDeleteThanks =)
You are a smart cookie and ahead of a lot of us- I make my own laundry detergent but have not made my own pre-treater before. You can bet I will now- Thanks- xo Diana
