We have been busy busy trying to get some unfinished projects done. The dining room has been our main focus for now. We had popcorn ceilings plastered over, molding put up and finally now painted. We took down the crummy looking cabinets hanging on both sides of the china hutch. I said lets just hang plates and boy does that give it a cleaner finished look. We have an odd dining room in the center of our home because of an addition. It has six doorways and little wall space. It is nice and big so I love that for entertaining.
Of course the mister had to decorate the top of the cabinet while I was at the store. I approve.
Fresh paint just makes a room feel so much nicer. Nothing like it for a sprucing up.
We still have a mish mash of furniture and a table we would like to replace but for now it will stay. You can see I don't have much wall space.
On my dream list a large harvest table and open shelved hutch. Much less formal than the ones I was given by my mother when she redecorated. I am so much more relaxed and like simpler less fussy furniture but I was thankful to have them and have used them for many years.
It only took us over a year to get all the crown molding painted. Anyone else on the slow track of home improvement like us? We are paying for it today. Both of us saying ooh and ouch when we are walking around the house.
Looks pretty!
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful, I like the paint color very much. xo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I really love the plates on the walls. I've been dying to do that in our kitchen.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it Elaine! Love that color too. I personally like that all of the furniture doesn't match. I just posted my dining room re-do last night, and my goal was to be not formal. I think yours looks great! Oh, and your hubby did great on the decor, please tell him so.

ReplyDeleteHi Elaine! Oh, I just love everything. Love the soft yellow wall color. Looks a lot like the color I used in my kitchen. I like your white hutch, it looks so big and you've dressed her so nicely. Your hubby did a great job decorating the top.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Hi Elaine - it looks fabulous! It's been almost three years since I moved into my 'new' home, and I have been planning the decoration of my dining room ever since! The furniture is absolutely fine, and I know how it's going to look inside of my head, but alas, the paint hasn't reached the actual walls yet...sigh!
ReplyDeleteGood for you for getting it done in double quick (compared to me) time - lol!!
best wishes from England,
Paula x
Hi Elaine, I think it looks so pretty! I am like you about unfussy furniture. Someday we'll get there! Jean
ReplyDeleteHi Elaine,
ReplyDeleteYour crown turned out beautifully! and your hutch looks so perfect in your dinning room. The shade of yellow you have is so close to one I had in my last home I love the color, and all your fall decorations are so festive! You and I are for sure on the same track...it also took us 1 year to have all the trim, molding and all the wood work installed and painted in our home. I posted about our crown today too. We must be thinking alike LOL :) It sure is good to be done with all the dust, I think it took me a week to to through every room and clean.
I see a beautiful quilt hanging from a chair by a desk?. Did you make it? Its lovely.
Sending hugs, Elizabeth
i really love your country flair. so pretty. the colors & mixed match is so lovely. thanks, for sharing. big hugs. (:
ReplyDeleteI just love your dining room! Everthing is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour dining room is gorgeous. I love the space you have and it will easily entertain quite a few. Beautiful color and the moldings are just wonderful. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteYour dining room looks great, Elaine! I love the colors and the plates on the wall are just perfect. I like your mix of classic furniture; I prefer that to a lot of the new stuff out there. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day!

It looks like a wonderful place to hang out. Love the chairs.
ReplyDeleteThe plates look wonderful Elaine. We are awful at home improvement. We shall never get the bedroom completed and now it has turned into a storage room for my resell business unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've had the pleasure of seeing this room in your home, Elaine. It's a nice big space for your family to entertain and pretty to boot.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
You're home is lovely. i love the hutch.
ReplyDeleteblessings to you.
Merci pour le partage de ces belles photos...
ReplyDeletegros bisous
It looks beautiful Elaine. Can't wait to see you on Friday!
ReplyDeleteElaine, your dining room looks just lovely. The colors and windows make it so light and inviting. I know you got the hutch from your mom, I love it - was it always white? I ask because I have one similar that is very dated and wood and I've often thought of painting it. Everything happens slowly around here! Ann
ReplyDeleteVery pretty dining room and the wall color is such a nice shade of yellow.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dining room! The word HOME keeps coming to mind as I look at the photos.
ReplyDeleteLove the fresh paint and crown molding! That is a nice big room! But having so many doors does make it hard to place furniture. I have that problem in both my living, and family room.
ReplyDeleteI know that thing about having more wants than money too!!!

Your home looks so warm and comfortable! It gives the feeling of family and love! Enjoy your finished room.
ReplyDeleteLook very pretty, I like rooms with lots of doors and windows let in lots of light and always feels fresh.
ReplyDeleteMerle....
So cozy. I love it all!
ReplyDeleteIf your hubby ever gives up the powerman gig he should take up staging! Your dining room looks very cozy and inviting.
ReplyDeleteOhhh and ouch seems to be a regular sound out of my mouth. I try not to, but then I move, and it just slips out....we still haven't finished all the molding...and the last door knob is bought but sitting nicely on the table, not in the door!!
ReplyDeleteYour home looks lovely! it should inspire me to paint and make a few nice touches here and there.
ReplyDeleteHome Sweet Home....It's so welcoming...so peaceful. Ahhhh.....You've created a safe place filled with love for your family.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, my friend,
Carolynn
It looks great and oh so neat an clean.
ReplyDeleteCathy
What a beautiful dining room, Elaine. Love the wall color, the crown moulding, and the plates beside the hutch. How did you hang them?
ReplyDeleteLooks like all those oohs and ouch's have been worth it though Elaine. It all looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteLove those thrifted chairs :)

I love the look. And I love the white china hutch. You have decorated your home beautifully. Thanks for sharing. Karie
ReplyDeleteLove the hutch and plates are always one of my favorite thing to decorate with. Very pretty! Thanks for stopping by, Laura
ReplyDeleteVery homey and comfortable! In fact I can easily picture (a) having a nice hot meal in here! (b) my former kitchen table fitting in here nicely - it was a library table I bought @ secondhand spot called "Feather Your Nest" :)
ReplyDeleteI love your eclectic mix of furniture, Elaine. I think it gives it a very homey look. The paint color really adds to the feel.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Laura
Your dining room looks lovely, Elaine!!! I think it's so cute how Mr. Sunny decorates. He really did a great job on the top of the china cabinet! :D
ReplyDeleteWe have a list of repairs we need to make around the house, and I would love to install crown molding upstairs in the bedrooms. We only have it in the hallway for some reason. :/
Enjoy the rest of your week, my friend!
xo,
RJ
That looks very fresh and inviting...
ReplyDeleteyou did a great job.
Jen @ Muddy Boot Dreams
It looks absolutely WONDERFUL!
ReplyDeleteYour kids are sure to like the changes going on in your house. All the Halloween things are such fun. Your paint color looks very similar to my bedroom. Is it a Benjamin Moore?
ReplyDeleteYou could de-formalize the table by changing the legs? Take off the doors to the china hutch and/or paint, take out the lights? Sometimes it just takes time to get where you want to be. We still have a thrift store dining table. I want to upgarde too to something nicer...
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I've missed a few of your posts this week!
ReplyDeleteI love this make over in your dining room Elaine.
The yellow is happy. I love it. Your table and hutch look lovely. I don't suppose you could take the doors off your hutch...to open it up?
I guess you've probably already thought of that... I like it. I love the lights on it.
The chairs and your table...beautiful. All nice homey touches.
Pat
