Too Empty?

The Christmas tree is down and the rooms swept clean. I find the open spaces refreshing don't you after all the holiday fluff? We have this funny front room in our home where our piano stands but it is sort of pass through to everywhere and other than a few things along the window we have left the room bare of furniture.

Our winter tree is in a wagon on an old trunk in the front window. I love to pull up and see the glow from the front window. Soon it will have hearts for Valentine's Day.

You know our house is always full of stuff here and there. We don't even have a rug in here any longer. I am wanting a braided oval rug for the room so hopefully this year I will find one at a good price.

So do you think it looks too bare?

Sunny Simple Sundays blog party will be up this afternoon. See you then.

  1. one reason why i love this time of the year. the clean & simple. a moment to breathe & catch up on life. get back into the grove of things. amazing how you take a Christmas tree away from the room & suddenly the room feels huge. it's great!!

can't wait to see your valentine's tree.

enjoy your weekend. big hugs. ( :

  2. How about a cute loveseat in front of the window and use the trunk as a coffee table. It could be used as a place to put on shoes or a nice reading nook...

or leave it just the way it is.

    Many Blessings,

  4. I personally like the look, your home is really pretty, warm and inviting. Like you, I also need rugs, but will have to wait to see how bad the tax hit is before making any plans there. Mary

  5. I think it looks nice. I've had to deal with bare rooms too. Sometimes it takes a while to figure out how to make a room useful. Could part of it be changed into a sort of mudroom? A library? I like Valerie's idea of putting some sort of seating (loveseat, two cozy chairs) in front of the window. It looked nice when you used to have that red toile sofa in front of the window too. I say, do whatever makes you happy. It always looks great from where i sit.

  6. I am loving having things look a little bare and it seems to make the house feel bigger. If this is not used as a real sitting room, then I think it looks amazing. Love the winter tree. Hugs, marty

  7. I think it is a lovely space and a braided rug will definitely brighten it up without bringing in any extra furniture. Our home is filled to the brim and even my kids always tell me we have too much stuff. But if I see a bare space, I've gotta fill it. I like the tree that's changed for the holidays. I've wanted to do the same with a twig tree I have but just can't seem to get organized enough. Have a great weekend. Tammy

  11. I like the idea of a braided rug there. I don't think it looks bare at all. The tree on the trunk is also cozy!
    Looks inviting and spacious.
Our entry to our home is too full. I'm thinking on changing it ups some.
    Take care--

  16. love the tree and the idea of having a valentine one!

Personally I think it looks wonderful . Sure a braided rug would look nice but it looks great without one as well !

  20. I think it looks adorable, just like it is! BUT I do understand the "it just needs something" feeling. The rug will add a lot. :)

  21. I like the clean uncluttered look so I think it looks great! After all the Christmas decor is taken down I always feel so free and like I can move around better. A rug would be cute tho.

  25. Not at all! It would almost be a shame to cover those lovely floors! It's a beautful room Elaine:>)

  26. I like the look of your music room. I, too, always enjoy adding vignettes to a room. I think your wagon and tree add just the right touch. It will be fun changing it over to Valentines. (Can't wait to see your heart tree!)
When we moved into our home it echoed. I found two different area rugs at a local re-sale shop "Dejavu". They were very inexpensive and in mint condition. I hope you are able to find a nice braided rug for your room.
    Have a great weekend, Elaine!

  27. It looks good! It's easy to overdue it and just have a lot of stuff, and miss the individual pieces IMO. You might consider making a rag rug, lots of directions online. Not that hard and much cheaper...

  28. Looks just right to me! But then I like any decorating that you do :)

Love the idea of a Winter tree...

  29. I love the little tree with lights on the trunk to greet you when you come home. The only thing I would change is the red chair. I would replace it with a soft chair for reading. It looks like the perfect place to get away and read. Beautiful floors but a rug would be nice, too!

  30. I don't know - it's sort of nice seeing a room that isn't filled with things! We don't have that luxury here but a part of me sometimes looks around here and longs for a clean, free of too much stuff space!

Thanks so much for joining in this week!

  31. Your decor is beautiful. The addition of a braided rug will cozy it up. No, it does not look bare at all, there is plenty to keep the eye's attention. I like the idea of a "winter" tree and then a "valentine" tree. Do you keep it up all year, with decor for each holiday?
