One day, a couple of weeks ago, I was up late sitting in bed and reading my e-mails. I had received one from Debby from Canada. What she wrote and said in that e-mail had me in tears. She is not a blogger but has been following my blog for some time and described how much she had identified with some of my life's path like the loss of a mother, raising a young one in your later years. Anyway, I won't get into details but somehow for her, things I had said in my posts just clicked. We clicked. I was very moved by her words and how much she remembered about my posts from the past. She sent this calendar to me based on the cover and how much it reminded her of the post I did on my husband's old workboots and how I planted flowers in them after he finally got a new pair. Wow! I mean how awesome is that. I get so much more than I could ever give on this blog. You all offer me such encouragement and fellowship.
She was so sweet to go through the trouble to send me this package with a wonderful note and enclosed a recipe I am wanting to try. This is how I feel blogging is similar to dating websites. You see blogs and you find out what a person is like and similarities to you. Things in common, kindred spirits and all that. It weeds out the folks you just have nothing in common with and sometimes you just have a match. Someone has said something you can totally relate with and a bond is formed. Am I off the deep end here? Maybe. But I have corresponded and met with some really terrific women through this journey of blogging. I just want to regularly say thanks. Thank you Debby and thanks to my blogging friends.
WOW, Elaine, that is so awesome and every word is so true! It is very humbling at times and I too are very thankful to be a part. Have a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteWell said, Elaine! I feel as though I have some true "friends" around the country I've never actually met. Like you, there have been those I feel like I have a connection with for different reasons!
ReplyDeleteI really like your new calender that was given to you...that was very sweet of her! :)
May the Lord bless you!
Leslie
Elaine, that is so beautiful and so very touching. You said it so well too! Very special, I really like this post!
ReplyDeleteYou are not off the deep end. The blogging world means that no one has to be alone in the good or bad part of their lives. There is someone out there writing the story and a kindred spirit out there reading it. How wonderful is that! ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteI completely understand what you are saying. I have met people from around the country that I have become "friends" with, that I would never have met otherwise. I have even gotten to know a wonderful woman who lives in Spain, and I've learned so much about her and her part of the world and all because of blogging. What a wonderful way to expand our horizons and form new friendships!
ReplyDeleteIt really is a small world. I have met so many delightful people from around the world during my short blogging stint. When I began this journey I really had no expectations of anyone being interested in anything I had to say. I am always left speechless when someone signs up to follow me. Like you I never take it for granted. Hugs! Bonnie
ReplyDeleteConnecting with fellow bloggers is a wonderful thing! Debby was so thoughtful to send you that sweet present. Clearly, she feels you are a kindred spirit.

So true...kindred hearts, and there are many. I think we are all about 99% alike, we really are sisters you know and it makes me so happy to have so many! Love the connections too! ;D
ReplyDeleteNot off the deep end at all! Kindred spirits are a lovely thing to find and treasure. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet and thoughtful gift. I think that blogging does bring special "unknown" friends into our lives. Blessing to you.
ReplyDeleteThe friendships and connections we make is what I love about blogging. I have made some truly deep connections with women I have never met. It is a very special thing! Love the calendar! hugs, Linda
ReplyDeleteElaine, you are right on with that analogy of blogging. I too was blessed this week with a very similar story as yours. She is also Deb, and she wrote for the first time in my comment section, but said she had been following me for years. She said how much she identified with me, etc. She also sent me an email, and we exchanged several more back and forth. I was so wishing she didn't live so far away. Because I know we would be great friends in person, but how wonderful that we can be friends via blogging and letters. It is a wonderful thing, and I too feel that I have received far more than I give in blogging!!!

How nice to have formed that friendship. I think Blogging is a great avenue to friendships.:-)
ReplyDeleteWow! Blogging has open up a new world for me too Elaine. And you were one of the many beautiful and kind hearted persons I met in the blogosphere. I am not a mother and yet your stories and experiences also inspire and make me appreciate more my own mother and motherhood in totality. May your blog bring more inspiration to other people. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're not off the deep end at all; I think the blogging world can be the start of some great, new friendships and meeting people from all over the world. What a wonderful gift we all share. :-)
ReplyDeleteAwe,this is so right on.You are one special lady,Elaine.
ReplyDeleteI feel so very blessed every day to meet wonderful kindred spirits through my blog. These are amazing people I would never have met if it weren't for my blog.

LOL no, you are not off the deep end. What a sweet story!!! You are such an inspiration to us all, Elaine. Thanks for sharing your sweet gift and email with us!
ReplyDeleteI never thought about blogging being akin to a dating service, but you are so right! I try to find bloggers who have similar interests, beliefs, styles or maybe it's just something about a blogger that I just connect with right off the bat....they are all kindred spirits.
ReplyDeleteI am continually amazed by the kindness of bloggers and now even a blog reader! I don't know what it is that makes us connect with people we have never and may never meet face to face. I feel truly blessed to be part of such a wonderful group of women and with the friendships I am making. And to see how YOU have been blessed, dear friend, makes me smile.
Hi Elaine, Who is the calendar by? It is sooo cute! Angela
