When Your Blog is Deleted

Last night as I was blogging and hopping around when all of a sudden my blog was deleted by Google. Do I dare type their name for fear of retribution? Just all of sudden poof. I was shocked for a second and after poking around Blogger they directed me to Google who had taken it down. There was a link to place a request for Google to rethink or review why they took it down. I just decided I wasn't going to worry about it. If the blog was gone then it was a sign that I needed to spend less time online but then I recvd. an e-mail with an apology but no explanation from Google and the blog had been restored. Goes to show you what you think you own in cyberspace isn't really your own and it can be gone in a second. So I am back. Whew.
I did have my blog backed up but they control your domain name so I would not have had my same URL if they had not restored it. Just thought I would share my experience.

  2. I also use blogger, but have considered switching to word press or another paid hosting sight so this won't ever happen. If you own your own domain and pay to have your site posted then you can do whatever you want with your website. It goes to show you how important it is to back up your work! Glad your blog is back up and running!

  3. Elaine,
Were glad your back! I am not sure why that happens. I have heard if you delete gmail, they delete your blog. Somehow they are tied together. I also heard they will delete your photos if you use Picasa and reach your limit and don't continue to pay for the storage (which is an very small fee), and if you delete Picasa they delete your photos. If you didn't do any of this I don't know why it disappeared.
I continue to be grateful every day they give me the blog space to be creative and to share that. I am glad you backed up your blog. Hopefully it won't happen again.
    Hugs,
    Sherry

  4. Oh goodness, so scary!! Me, I'm not savvy so who knows what I would NOT DO! I'm so glad you got the blog back, I don't want to miss you! I hope it doesn't happen to you again...or any of us! Thank you for sharing the experience. Hugs,

  5. Wow! I hope that never happens to me. I do know that a few weeks ago I had someones whole playlist of music on my blog and my blog was a different color. Strange!!

Thank you for your nice comments on Mr. Sweet pea. I do appreciate it.

    Hugs

  6. Woah! How scary! They did that once but with my email. You do loose a sence of confidence.

  7. I saw that had happened last night! Like you, if it happened (happens) to me, I would likely think -- oh well, just a sign from the universe to apply my efforts to other areas of my life -- but if I had a business that was tied in or depended on my blog, oh my! But then, when I had my small law practice it seems like I had to deal with ATT outages and interruptions (phone, internet) several times a year -- sometimes lasting as long as 3 or 4 days! ugh. Honestly, it seems like despite all these technological developments, things just don't work all that great on a consistent basis.

I'm glad you got your blog back.

  8. That EXACT same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. Just poof. Gone. I was not as easy going about it as you. I freaked!! And as fast as it was gone... it came back with the same email you got. No explanation.

I did a blog post the next day about backing up your blog. You might want to have a read about it.

  10. Oh Dear is all I can say because last evening I was poking around on my blog and happened to see where 2 hours earlier you had posted something, sooooo I click on my link to you and it said you were no longer around, I clicked again and same thing. I was even going to do a post asking if anyone knew where you were or did you change your blog name, etc.....so glad to see it was a mistake and you are back. I need to read Carmen's back up plan. Ya never know when it could happen to you. I think I would be pretty sad to loose the list of followers the most, and of course all the hard work and hours doing it!

  11. Ok,for well over a month I could not comment on your blog.A non-responsive script error would pop up. I could read your blog for about 1.5 minutes then it would lock my computer. Did the whole shut down bit. TODAY was the first time I could comment. Weird huh?I could comment on other blogs so I found it odd. Yeah,I am glad your back.....xoxoxo

  14. I so happy it was restored. I want to ask....(my lack of computer knowledge) how do you back up your blog? Can you save it on a flash drive? I really have never thought of backing it up.

  17. This is the first in about 2-3 weeks that I have tried to see your blog. Because, everytime I would get on it my computer froze up - I couldn't do anything. I had to manually turn it off. I always got a box saying something on this blog is causing.......I forget what exactly the rest of the words were. I didn't report it but, perhaps someone else having the same trouble did? I am glad to be able to visit you again!

  19. My account got deleted a few weeks ago, then I checked another computer, which said there was suspcious activity happening with my account. I had to call and get a verification number before I could access my account again. I read up about reasons this could happen and read sometimes you have a potenial hacker when that happens. Who knows.

Like some of the others, I haven't been able to stay in your blog in ages. Can't remember the message, but I do know it was something about your script wouldn't run on IE. Glad things are fixed now!

  20. Yikes! That's scarey. I have been blogging for nearly 5 years, I can't imagine losing it. I have been considering having the blog printed by year in book form, I may put that on my Christmas list so if the unthinkable happened I would still have it. SO glad you're back!

  21. Oh Elaine, this is scary. I would be clueless as what to do. I do have numerous blogging problems, such as I can be following someone, and poof, I am no longer following? I am going to check out Carmen's post. So glad you got back on.

  22. Don't scare me like that! So glad blogger got you back on board. Have a relaxing weekend, Patty

  23. Glad you are back on...I wasn't really sure what had happened to you. This is kinda scary, that all your hard work could be gone with just one click of a button...

  24. OMG!!! Horrible... experience. I would really like to understand what their reason was to take your blog off-line??? I am so glad you're back - Hew!!! but, It really makes me wonder!???

  25. Yes that was crazy Elaine! As you know I emailed you wondering where you were! So glad you are back! LOL! Thanks for the invite on the 3rd. If my new grand baby isn't born yet, I most likely will be doing the Ivy St. Market. I will catch up to you all again, hopefully right after the holidays! :)

  26. Same thing happened to me...got it back through email. I know someone else that this happened to also..so strange!

  27. Wow...a strange experience at that. I sometimes feel like I am being monitored by some big eyeball and if it doesn't happened to like what I share it will poop me away. I guess if I got deleted it would not be a good thing at all but,the worst part would be I would lose my links to all you ladies and your wonderful blogs. Glad everything worked out for you...blessings

  28. hmmm...that's interesting and kinda scary, too. But glad it all worked out.

  29. Wow, what a scare. Glad everything is back where it should be.

I think sometimes a troll complains just for fun and the site administrators don't bother to check it out, they just act upon it. I'd certainly want an explaination from Google. What a cool dude you are!

  31. I have had this happen to me just recently & it is scary! Glad you're back up & running.

  32. Did you ever find out why? I am getting caught up on your blog after a horse and shopping-filled weekend. I bet you are sad to see all of your Thanksgiving and fall decorations go because you have some of the cutest autumn decorations I have seen! They put me in a good mood just looking at them.

How did you save your blog? I am scared now....
