Garden Patio in Winter

I have cut back all the plants in my pots for the year and pulled the annuals out. With our mild winters I keep my impatiens for years just cutting them back in the winter and feeding them.
The ivy is the only greenery now as the other vine dies off in winter.

This is Lola my six pound baby. This chair is her favorite spot on warm afternoons.

Don't those poor candles look sad all melted. Time to get rid of them. I have some bulbs coming up in a pot on my table though. They are purple Dutch Iris I divided from the front yard. I will be making less trips to the nursery this year as I we are working off a list of maintenance jobs around here.

  4. your patio is pretty in winter where my flower garden is covered in dogwood leaves which I consider mulch at this point. My impatients planted in the ground die out but come back in the late summer.

  5. I love the ivy growing up the wall - so beautiful. I wish I could keep my impatiens for years. Even though we have technically mild winters in Georgia we still get lots of day that are below frost. So they never last through that.

  10. Before we downsize last year we always had inpatients that would come up every year at Spindle Cottage. We had boxes that lined the back fence and they would be full by summer. It was wonderful! Glad you get to enjoy yours too!

  11. Hi Elaine,
Oh, I'd love to be sitting on your patio right now! Pretty! It's so cold and windy here today. I keep looking out at my screened porch and deck wishing spring were here.

  14. I cut my inpatients back like that too...I have had some for years...also...do you know you can root the parts you cut off...just stick them in some water and they will form little roots...then plant them! It's a great way to save a few $$!!

  15. Lola is so cute!!

sigh, we had snow-ish stuff falling yesterday and it got down in the low 20's last night. But we will be back in the 50s by tomorrow -- we have enough nice temps in January and Feb to bud plants out and taunt us gardeners, but then severe freezes to slap us down. Your patio looks so beautiful.

  16. My winter patio is a dang mess-you have inspired me to spruce it up. We get some very nice winter days around Denver and I would love to be able to actually enjoy going out there!http://www.blogelina.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-cart-for-digital-products/download.php?file=3BOa%2FCgFV%2FSThKTo
