Okay first off let's establish that these are some spoiled chickens or I am a spoiled wife or both or my husband has gone insane. Any old ways in this continuing journey into chickendom I have decided I hate the coop behind the garage I have known this for a while. I mean it is a great space and all but unless the chickens were out in the yard I could not see them whatsoever. I want to SEE them. Enjoy them. They are more pet and hobby than anything else and I want to enjoy watching them and I hated going behind there at night if it was dark. So I mentioned this issue to the fore mentioned insane husband, driven there of course by his wacko crazy chicken loving wife.
So I heard the words....
"Honey get what makes you happy."
Uh-Uh what?
"Just don't make me build anything else!!"
Okay babe.
So this is what I ordered.
Ain't it the cutest?
It is perfect and took only 45 minutes to put together. The little house has a roost for them and two laying boxes out back. The perfect height for Q to check for eggs.
It is only where they sleep at night and in the morning I let them out to munch and scratch below. The space is small so they come out into the yard for their morning work and then they head over to their old coop to spend the day and in the early evening we let them out to come back to the yard and they take themselves right into the little house for the evenings. I can see them in there and I enjoy this so much better. Of course hubby already has plans to extend the run on the bottom so they have more space. He is insane but he knows how to make a chicken happy and a crazy chicken wife too.
I love how it matches the swing set. This weekend it is getting a good coating of weather sealer but we don't get summer rains and in the fall hubs will put a little awning over it .
Here's our coop.
Elaine, it is so adoreable even without the chicks!! It's so you. I know there are some really happy chicks there!
ReplyDeleteAdorable!!
ReplyDeleteI love it, what a great chicken coop. Looks perfect in the yard. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteHi Elaine! You just have the perfect home. I love everything.

Wow - that looks very cool!
ReplyDeleteThat is truly an adorable chicken coop! I agree, what is the fun if you can't see them! I hope those chickens realize they are quite lucky!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Those chickens live in luxury!!
ReplyDeleteStacey of Embracing Change
THat is just the cutest thing. It looks like a playhouse for the chickens.
ReplyDeleteThis is WAY cool! If you don't stop I am going to be getting me some chickens and I don't think they are allowed where we live in our small town. That is just too darn cute! Perfect for your yard!
ReplyDeleteGosh keep your fingers crossed for me i so want frizzles!!!
ReplyDeleteWell how perfect is that!!!!!!! Your husband sounds SO much like mine!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe are lucky chicken ladies!!!!
XO Kris
What a great coop! I've been looking for one to build--only maybe a little larger. I Must show this to hubby!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome!!! You must be one happy chicken mama, so glad you can see more of your babies now! Hugs ~ Mary
ReplyDeleteThat looks so good!! Where did you order it from?
ReplyDeleteMy "chicken renewal" plans got totally derailed by having to care for our 3 and 4 yr old grandchildren for beginning the day we got back from Florida while their mother (our oldest) deals with a housing crisis -- so no new coop yet, and no new chickens either.
Hi Elaine!
ReplyDeleteOh I am SO jealous! I have been coveting all these cute chicken coops in blogland for over a year. There is NO WAY we can have chickens in our "full of rules and regulations" gated community.
I want to move just so I can have chickens and a little goat or two... or maybe a pony?
I came to visit via Jann's Share A Cup Thursday party, where I shared about my own little garden friends.
xoxo Bunny Jean
Perfect!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute little coop, and it works great in your city yard :)
Yippee!!
Cute, and fast! We used mostly recycled stuff to build ours, but it takes a while to gather the materials sadly...
ReplyDeleteI'd want to be able to see my chickens, too. They are certainly spoiled. Can't think of any other chickens with two homes!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful home for your ladies! That is the cutest coop, I know they and you must be so happy!
ReplyDeleteGET. OUT! I love it! It's a toss up who is more spoiled you or the chickens. Really Elaine, this is a lovely coop. What chick wouldn't want to live there?
ReplyDeleteOh I forgot to tell you Elaine, I just ordered more babies, two blue Cochins, two light Brahmas and a white crested black Polish rooster to go with my 4 hens I just got at the chicken auction. I'm so excited about them! We chicken people are a curious bunch aren't we? It's too much fun!
ReplyDeleteYou coop is the same as mine but quite a bit bigger! It looks really cute in the garden. ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteOH Elaine, that is so nice. I've seen some at the local feed store, but not like this one. You have to share where you got this.
ReplyDeleteI am so excited! This is just the cutest coop ever! Everything looks great. A happy home!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Susie
You have the luckiest chickens in the world! I want some, but you have to have a special permit here.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
You are truly one lucky lady who found herself a good man.
ReplyDeleteThat is an adorable coop!
Hugs, Cindy
It's perfect!! We are thinking about getting chickens... But I'm still too chicken to commit!

Wildly Original Round Up party is open!
You're right! that's one fine chicken coop... my hubby hates when I mention chickens... except when it's time to eat fresh eggs... so did the new coop improve the egg laying?
ReplyDeletehave a wonderful weekend. Dixie
That is the cutest! You chose well! When I saw it I thought of my daughter's spoiled rabbit and how he would love something like it!
ReplyDeleteMy neighbor was raising chickens and selling eggs and every so often they whole group would meander over to our yard...I loved it! They had some real colorful ones and they just looked so cute wandering my back yard.
Elaine, this is so darn cute! Looks like you found the perfect solution to make you, hubby, and the chickens happy. I have wanted chickens for a while, but just not sure where I could put them. You are tempting me girl. Thanks for sharing this cute coop with Share Your Cup!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Jann
It took only 45 minutes to put it together!? And it is nicely matched with the swing set! So cute!
ReplyDeleteI would love for you to share this at link party I am having now :) Hope to see you there!
Myric
I'm newly a chicken owner, but I already am hooked on watching the ladies! They are such fun to have around.
ReplyDeleteHow cute Elaine! I just love it! Thank you for joining me at Home Sweet Home!
