Fairy Egg

Look what one of the girls laid. A tiny egg sometimes called a fairy egg or witches egg. They are yolkless eggs. Not sure why she laid one but hopefully we will resume normal activity.

  1. Wow, never heard of a fairy egg! Must be a hormonal thing? Maybe they use these for those no yolk noodles! xo

  4. I've had one or two of those from my hens. I wasn't sure, either, what was going on but they were few and far between so I didn't think much about it. Hope the egg is normal tomorrow!

  5. I think those teeny eggs are so adorable! Sometimes they do have a teeny little yolk. When our girls were little they used to think these were so cool to eat for breakfast:>)

  6. I definitely like the sound of fairy egg better. lol Great for people who don't like egg yolk, huh! But I hope she gets back to normal too. :-) It's so cute though.

  8. One of the two Nuggets from last years chicks that we kept, did that once.
    I don't recall getting anymore.
Also, In the 18-20 months that we've had eggs, we've not had one 'double yolk'. However, my daughter and sIL have had two of them! (we trade them eggs for milk) :)

I've never heard these little eggs called fairy eggs or witches eggs. That is a new one on me!

  12. I all our years of having chickens, I've never had a fairy egg. But we have had a "wind egg" - one without a hard shell. It is soft and barely holds the egg together. Very weird!

  13. I've kept all our teensy eggs for some future craft project. We have a less refined name for them than fairy eggs though, lol!

  14. I've had some of these before. Always a funny thing to see in the nesting boxes :) I've never heard them called fairy eggs before, I like that better than what I've heard them called - fart eggs!

  15. I had no idea this could happen, nor obviously it had such a cute name... I have a lot to learn from you before I get any chicken at the Little White House!

  17. It's so cute!! I had a chicken that laid funky shaped eggs. They were extra large but looked different every day. Looked like it hurt her or she was slowly laying it so it would dry then she'd push, dry again, push, until it came out with a skinny end and ridges. Sometimes the shells had bubbles or bumps. Color was usually not the same ranging from light to medium brown. Still edible though. Just weird how chickens lay odd ball stuff.
