Thank God for the Flowers

I don't know if it is the weather or I forgot how to garden but my veggies this year are lagging. I have picked only a few tomatoes, a couple squash and lots of cucumbers but they taste blah. That may be the variety.

Oh, but my flowers. Thank goodness for them. They are making up for my lagging veggies.  Last night I thought to myself maybe next year I will leave the veggies to the farmers and just grow all flowers.

This is actually a carrot that got left in the soil and has flowered. I thought it looked sort of like Queen Anne's Lace.

And this morning early just before the sun came up I was out enjoying the last bit of cool before the heat of the day and the mums are exploding. Once they are done I will shear them off, feed them and they will be glorious again by fall.

  2. ha ha I had that "ONLY FLOWERS" thought not too long ago! After a few little harvests of strawberries the remainder of them got some sort of grungy mold due to too much rain. My two raised beds are fine but we have had alot of rain ...as in torrential rain off and on...and I have some veggies in huge containers. Have to slop off 3 inches of standing water and pull muscles, send half of the dirt out of the pot, etc. Geez. So ...I can sympathize. But as soon as I start eating fresh tomatoes from my little gardens I'll forget all the woes! :)

  3. My garden is lagging this year too. We got a bit of a slow start because of the late frosts, so I am going to just keep waiting. Your flowers are beautiful!

  6. I love the flowered carrot! They are all so pretty!!! My tomatoes are small this year. NEVER planting an heirloom again! They taste great though. I noticed that yesterday my garden really suffered from the heat. I had a lot of burnt leaves!!! I think I will put some shade out there today.

  12. Your flowers look lovely. I have some of the same that are doing great this year.

I can't remember what part of SoCal you are from, but I imagine it is somewhere hot. It was HOT on the beach today and it was literally the most people we have ever seen on the beach. And, I hear it is supposed to be hotter tomorrow.

  14. Love seeing the flowering carrot! Veggies are beautiful, too! I leave the veggies to others because we have so many dear and rabbits here - it would be a never-ending battle.

Thanks so much for joining in this week.

  15. Your flowers are beautiful. I don't think it is your gardening of the veggies. I think the heat has probably done a job on them. Let's hope it cools off soon.
