How To Steam Eggs - Young Homemakers Series

My favorite way to hard boil eggs is also the easy way to steam eggs. I find this method makes it easier to peel fresher eggs which we all know can be tough. In this Young Homemaker Series, hard boiled eggs are a basic kitchen staple. Easy to make and an economical quick snack or meal.

How To Steam Eggs

Add 1 inch of cold water to a large pot. Place steamer insert inside, cover, and bring to a boil over high heat. Add eggs to steamer basket, cover, and continue cooking, 6 minutes for soft-boiled eggs or 15 minutes for hard-boiled. I just use an inexpensive wire basket with a wood handle strainer I set in the pot. Any steamer will do.

Remove steamer basket and place eggs in iced water to cool. Peel and enjoy.

  1. I'm embarrassed to say that just in the last year I learned you should put hard boiled eggs in icy water in order to easily peel. I've been doing it the hard way for decades! This is a great tutorial, Elaine, thanks for the info.
