Whenever we go camping, we treat ourselves to some awesome homemade comfort food and a favorite is our homemade beer batter onion rings made with Bisquick. I rarely make fried foods but when we are camping and hiking, I feel like we can splurge.
Beer Battered Onion Rings
Prepare the Onions
Use one to two large sweet onions.
This batter is also good for beer battered fish. For this I like to use large sweet onions like Maui onions. I slice the onions thickly so we have good sturdy slices. Some folks soak their onions in ice water. I use milk. Makes them nice and sweet.
I used only one large maui onion for a large pan of onion rings. A half hour before you want to fry the onion rings, slice and soak in cold milk.
I am going to link to the recipe. I used a dark beer and making a Bisquick batter made it so easy.
Find the recipe here. We even dipped some mushrooms in the batter. We made way more than we could eat.
Those look so good! I am going to have to give them a try!
ReplyDeleteYummy! We love onion rings, but we rarely eat friend food. We sometimes have them on special occasions, like for tailgating. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
