Creating order in the kitchen is the most important way to have an organized kitchen. Everything should have a place. Kitchen items should be stored by similarity or by use.
If you have a baking center then keep all the baking items stored nearby all in one place. If you can, also keep flour sugar and other ingredients in the same area. Organizing and older kitchen can often be difficult because we do not have the fancy new options someone does with a remodeled or newly built kitchen.
I have one of those minds that drowns in chaos and thrives in order. Now, I am not an organized person by nature and I have to work at it everyday to keep things in order. I love to open my cupboards and see exactly what I need right where it should be. That isn't easy with kids in the house. My simple old cupboards are a time warp. So many of the items I own are from my mother and hubby's grandmother. She was the original owner of this house and every cupboard is lined exactly in heavy vinyl. Makes it so easy to keep clean. Why would I ever get rid of them. I can just see her taking exact measurements and cutting these all out with precision.
I have really purged the items in my drawers as I don't have a lot of them. People in the 50's just did not have all the gadgets we have now. So first when you set to organize your kitchen, throw away or donate duplicate items you do not need. One or two of many items is all you could ever use.
I always had spice bottles all over in my cupboard so I decided to contain them in labeled little baskets from the dollar store. It has worked wonderfully.
Hands down five years later the basket organizers in my spice cabinet is the best way to organized spice bottles I have ever used. We still use it and and it prevents the little bottles going everywhere as well as it is a cheap way to organize your spices.
Let me know of any good secrets to organizing your kitchen. I am always looking for good ideas to make life easier.
Wow! Everything looks so neat and orderly! Makes me want to go tackle my pantry! :-)

1st time to visit your blog ... & I love it!
ReplyDeleteNot only is your blog all pretty, I enjoyed each one I read! I'll be stopping by often =)
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI really think that people in the 50's really had they needed. How many gadgets can you have? :o)
~ Gabriela ~
Looks perfect to me! I love a well organized cupboard!
ReplyDeleteI remember as a child helping my mom cut and put down that vinyl paper in the cupboards!!
Do you ever go to Starbucks? They sell their tea in these great tin containers (walmart is now carrying them too) well they make great storage for spices!!
I love to repurpose things and was in need of spice jars and these are perfect because no light can get in them either.
Pamela :)
Love the labels on the spice jar baskets! I have my spices corralled in baskets similar, but they're just thrown in. I know where the most-used ones go, but the family hasn't figured it out yet (what? they haven't learned to read my mind yet?!) Gonna have to dig out my label-maker and do some rearranging ... my family will be so happy LOL!
ReplyDeleteAll I can say Is good for you. I can't keep anything organized more than one day. I love the look but what a chore to keep it that way . I love you pretty pink pyrex stuff
ReplyDeleteJanice
love it! I need to do something with my spices too. lol
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying your blog and have been pouring all your back posts. I signed up for Hip2save and enjoying all her suggestions....I saved $13.00 already at Target and really have just started but plan on following as much as I can. Your decor is so pretty and I also like Yankee Home Classic candles (you had displayed in older post).thanks again and appreciate your advice on saving and all your posts, Emelia.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the pink pyrex!! Your cabinets are so organized!! I have to organize my cabinets every few months because they get very messy!!
ReplyDeletePeople always give me kitchen gadegets because I love to cook, but I donate them because I can't standing having all those gadgets.
I have really come to the conclusion that less is more!! LOL!!
Everything looks so nice and neat and I'm totally in love with those pink pyrex bowls! :)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Love your old cupboards :)
ReplyDeleteI had to learn that with my old cupboards, to keep things simple.
Use what I have, and only have things that I use:)
Sure is liberating not to have to worry about scads of dishes, gadgets, etc. that I only use once in a blue moon.
Have a happy day
Okay, I was just drooling over the pink pyrex dishes. I never had any pink, but I did have quite a few pieces, but they went "ba-by" many years ago. Didn't realize they would be so popular today. I think you are doing a great job on organizing your things. I'm crazy about the $Store for all the fun little bins & baskets that they carry. I have a ton of them in my craft room & quite a few in my kitchen. They are cheap, very versatile & easily replaceable -- what could be better, right? I'm new to your blog, visiting from Kara's party. I'm also a new follower, & I hope you'll take a peek at my blog & follow back if you find it interesting.

I actually need help because our kitchen is so tiny, and a large portion of our cabinets have china stored in them. I struggle with this, and I need to figure out something. Soon.
ReplyDeleteLOVE organization, its very refreshing! I would be delighted if you could link this up at my Unwasted Homemaking Party :).

First time visit.
ReplyDeleteI love order and it comes easy to me, so my kitchen is very organized. Everything has its place. Without being organized, like you I find it chaos and stressful. I love baskets to put things and have lots in the kitchen. I also label everything which make it easy for my sons to find what they need.
I love your pink dishes!
ReplyDeleteOrder is really a work of art!
ReplyDeleteIt makes everything easy to find, easy to return, easy on the eyes (you work fast when things look clean and orderly) and removes the clutter in your mind!

ReplyDeleteIt looks great! It think it's so important to be organized in the kitchen. I work on ours a lot. I just posted a kitchen organizing project myself: http://www.handymancraftywoman.com/2011/05/kitchen-organizing-part-1000.html
ReplyDeleteThe pyrex is precious.
ReplyDeleteMy mom always lines her cupboard shelves with contact paper.
Like you, clutter clogs my brain like loud, out of tune music. I can work much better without the visual noise of disorganized places.
Thanks for sharing your organized kitchen.
