Chicken Coop Fairy Garden in the Making

I have been wanting to create a chicken coop fairy garden. Lo and behold my favorite little shop had just the perfect thing.

It had to come home with me and now it sits awaiting its place in the garden.

Loved the old time wash tubs.

I think I will plant it in a large pot with brilliant green Scotch moss but what I need most are some little chickens. Any ideas where to order some?

  3. Oh my gosh Elaine, it is going to be so darling! I know that I have seen tiny chickens somewhere. What about a toy shop that has cool farm animals? There is one here in UT that carries a unique line. Wonder if they would have them. They may ship. If interested I could check it out for you. Love the little washtubs. Can't wait to see it when it's in the garden!

  7. That's going to be so cute! I love all the little things you found. I'd like to know where you found them.

I started shopping for fairy garden supplies last week. I found three places in SoCal that have stuff...Roger's Gardens, The Dragonfly Shops in Orange (they're online too), and M and M Nursery (online as "thefairygardenexpert.net"). The last place had the most. They had lots of supplies, the best plants and lots of fairy gardens to look at. It was a lot of fun. If you don't see what you're looking for on their website, I'd call. Seems like there was more in the store than what I see on their website. They might have chickens.

I found some containers for my garden(s) and I'm planning to go back to M and M this week to get supplies and plants for it. I'm so excited.

Can't wait to see how your garden turns out too. Have fun!

  13. Very cute! Can't wait to see the finished project. I know Michaels and Hobby Lobby both have "good" plastic farm animals, including chickens. I don't know whether they will be in proper scale, or what their cost is. You might also check train hobbyist suppliers.

  18. Try www.miniatures.com for 1" scale chickens. I don't know how big your house is for the garden, but these fit in a dollhouse sized yard. My 1 room dollhouse is 10 1/2 inches tall x 12 inches wide. Without any additions, except for a yard. Hobby Lobby may also have some. but might not be in scale.
I love your little house. You can also pick up pots in different colors if you want to do plants.

  20. This is going to be adorable. Do you have Michael's Craft Store? They have little animals of all kind.

Also, the Vermont Country Store (which has mail order) has small animals and I"m almost sure I saw chickens there.

Good luck! Cluck cluck cluck Susan

  26. What a unique idea to make a chicken house fairy garden.. How about if you used Sculpey to make your chickens. It comes in all colors. After it is baked I think it would withstand the weather.
You could even make chicken feeders, containers for water, eggs, etc.
I will be looking forward to seeing all of your creativity. I know it will be so much fun.
