Remember that wonderful antiques store I mentioned from a few days ago? Well the owner had these just sitting on the porch and when I asked how much he said $3 a piece and I said I will take them all please.
Not sure what they are priced where you live but around these parts that is a very good deal.
They all had various old lids. Brought them home and washed them up and thought plain and simple on the counter would be lovely. Maybe I will store stuff in them but I love the see the sun shine through the glass.
Don't ya just think all the old wives who canned in these would chuckle at how we all use them for decor nowadays?
That is an EXTREMELY good price for our area - usually more like $15 to 20 here. I love the blue ones and want some but right now, I need to go out and buy some new ones so I can make strawberry jam and corn relish next week. J
ReplyDeleteLove the color and these look like they're in great shape. Good price too. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great find! Lucky you to be the one to snatch them up. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteGreat old jars and great price...the lids can sometimes cost more than that by themselves. Blessings
ReplyDeletethey are beautiful!!!
ReplyDeletethey're beautiful!!! way to go, you!!!! i have a collection that all came from my family or a friend. i refuse to pay $18-25 like i've seen around here. it'd make me happier than anything to find some for $3!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great buy! I have never paid less than 8 for a large one. Usually more like 12.

I love the blue jars! I think you got a great deal.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes... I think they look at us and say, why would you want those on your counter? But some would say...'oh, I've always loved those and they bring back memories!"
It could go either way, I suppose.
Some people may look at us and wonder why we want chickens?! lol...
whatever makes us happy, little things, you know?
take care, Pat
I love the aqua ball jars. I have some. They are so pretty just sitting on a window sill or table. Sometimes it takes so little to make us happy. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteblessings to you.
I love the blue jars -- well, I am really guilty of loving all old glass, lol. I have a couple old insulators in the aqua sitting on my kitchen window sill and really love seeing the sun shine thru them :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind comment. I always enjoy my visits here :)
Blessings!
Gail
Fantastic price! I don't have one with the glass in the lids. Still looking for some.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
That's a great deal! Of course I got rid of a bunch of them years ago...but we won't think about that! heehee!
ReplyDeleteI love how the littlest things could make one happy. Great finds...I love that they each have different lids. Enjoy your day. Mica
ReplyDeleteLove them. Around here you will pay between 18 and 25 dollars. You got a great deal.
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I love the blue ones and you did get a great deal!!
ReplyDeleteMy very favorite obsession items! You got a GREAT deal! I have seen them priced over $20 sometimes here depending on size. When I started collecting them for my son's wedding reception I had a rule, not to pay over $5 for one. A couple of times I went over by a dollar or two, but for the most part stuck with my inner limit. Then I gave a lot of them away to people to remember the wedding by - so I HAD to start collecting again. I still try to stick to my $5 rule, but if I find a particularily unusual or old one I will spring for a couple more dollars.
ReplyDeleteI'm always on the lookout for them! Around here people dig them up in the backyards of old estates where people used to pitch them after they didn't want to use them anymore. I have to smile when I think how confounded they would be if they knew today there were some people paying good money for them and using them for display.
So pretty.
Ann
Beautiful and at a great price too.
ReplyDeleteLOVING your blues! Don't they make my brown eyes blue? Now I will have that song running through my head for hours- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteHi Elaine!
ReplyDeleteOh, I agree...our grandma's would chuckle to see the things that we treasure...and, it's funny, now that I think about it...I chuckle at the "retro" avocado green stuff that the 30 somethings are snatching up! It's interesting that we all have a desire to step back in time to a simpler existence.
I love your blue canning jars and those lids are so sturdy and original. They sure would make wonderful luminaries with the new flickering candle lights in them...maybe on a mantel or a wonderful vignette.
Thank you for your visits and kind comments on my blog! I appreciate your wisdom and practical perspective!

Wow.. that was a great deal!!!! I love the blue. Once I was out shopping with my grandma.. I bought a rusty old rotary egg beater ~ Grandma could not understand why I would spend money on a rusty unusable peice. ~ I'm gonna hang it from the ceiling grandma!! lol
ReplyDeleteGreat find!
ReplyDeleteThere's just something about pretty glass that pulls at a woman's billfold! ;-)
About the jars ? I guess we would have to explain that we were recycling, etc. I love the slight tint to them.
ReplyDeleteThose are gorgeous and the price is fabulous!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, they would probably laugh as they were so practical back then. Very little decoration unless it had a usefulness. I need to remember that! LOL! I have lots of those jars but I need to find lids for them as I do use mine with the lids for storing beans and rice etc. I may have to go on Ebay or search around the shops here. I think that's a good price.
ReplyDeleteThey're about $10.00 or so here and I love the old zinc lids!
ReplyDeleteI am sure that that is a great price anywhere! I have some jars that belonged to my grandmother and I am going to move them to a place where the sun will shine on them. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteWow, I hve a bunch of them. I've had them forever, though, so I forget how much I paid. I think it was about $20 for a box of them (about a dozen). Of course they did not have the lids. We use them for EVERYTHING! We can, drink out of them, store things in them, use them as vases.. and... and... and...
ReplyDeleteHow about that "star tile"?
ReplyDeleteCharming.
Great find I love the blue jars!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Elaine,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your sweet comment on my blog, and yes, you got a very good deal on those jars. It is my understanding that blue canning jar glass has not been made in at least 50 years - so they are vintage. I'm your newest follower.
Blessings,
Kim
Hello Elaine, that is a very good deal! I just love blue jars - especially with the zinc tops! Beautiful - I do appreciate you sharing with Home and Garden Thursday,
