Now if your house is like mine, you sometimes have a box of cereal that has gone stale. I hate to throw anything out so here is what I do with it.
Yep, I take any unsweetened stale cereal and mix it in with the dogs' food. They love it and have never had any problems with it. If you have a dog with allergies than I am not sure about this, but mine do not and they gobble it right up. I also mix it with the chicken feed too. Here's another freebie treat you can give your dog with an old peanut butter jar.
You could also give stale Cheerios to your chickens if you have them.

I had stale peanuts once and put them onto our clay oven. They turned out crisp and tasty. So maybe this would work with cereals too. You could put them in a pan and into the (electrical) oven at low temperature and let them dry. If it doesn't work, you can always mix them with the dogs' food. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I've never thought of doing this but I bet our dog would love it. Totally giving her our peanut butter jar next time, too!
ReplyDeleteAren't you the SMART LADY!! Never thought of that - as I read your post i had a mini brain storm:
ReplyDeleteHow about using it [also] for a 'short lived' kid's crafting session...making jewelry..necklaces and bracelets etc. If I had little ones around I would try it and share the results..I don't so wl hv to wait to see if someone else trys it.
Aren't we having fun!!

What a great ideal. We always have a little cereal left at the bottom of the box. But not enough to make a bowl. I bet my chickens would love this.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. I use cereal (both fresh and not so fresh) as a breading for chicken or fish. I used to make a nice party dish with chicken using Cap'n Crunch cereal. I have used corn flakes for oven fried fish and chicken, too. xo
ReplyDeleteI know Trudy will be very grateful for this great idea!
ReplyDeleteI use to give my dogs some cereal. But they get pancreatitis so easily now, I can't give them ANYTHING but prescription food. Last bout of being sick cost me $1100.

You are so resourceful!! My dog has severe allergies so he can't have that.

thats a great idea!!
ReplyDeleteHi Elaine-- I love this idea and practice it myself.
ReplyDeleteI take the left over crumbs from the chips bag and roll them out with rolling pin for the chickens too.
They like everything.
When I first got my chickens 'Granny J' (remember her, she's still around) ...anyway, she told me chickens like HOT MASH IN THE WINTER TIME. After doing some research, I found that any left overs we have can be warmed (not hot) mashed, mixed with oatmeal, cereal or crushed chips and the chickens love it.
Rather than run it down the disposal or into the compost...I just give it straight to my chickens.

Good idea...but I am totally into mixing all my cereal together, so I never have any left! Have a great weekend!
