We always have a real tree. Artificial for our main tree is not allowed. I suggested one one year and thought they were going to throw me out in the road as the car was moving. Anyway, back to our stand. We have the usual three legged stand with a water bowl but with wood floors I was always so worried about spillage and water ruining my wood floors. I tried putting plastic under there and that was messy. One year I saw the old galvanized tub hanging in the garage and thought what a perfect country accent for our tree. So husband modified the stand by just cutting the legs off a few inches and we know set the whole stand in the tub. I can fill the water bowl with no worries. My husband even put those felt sticky tabs under the tub so it would not scratch the floor.
I can never find a tree topper that I love so we combined a wooden star and candy cane with some berry sprigs found at Target. I love it. Of course hubby did it and I walked in the room and said,"Hey, I finally love the top of the tree. It is simple with some splashes of red."
Our tree is very basic. Lights, family ornaments and a splash of red.
A perfect tree, and a perfect topper by your husband. Bet it smells yummy, too! Mary
ReplyDeleteLove the top of your tree. Also, the washtub stand. Great idea!

This is my 2nd year of putting the tree in a galvanized tub -- LOVE it. Your tree is gorgeous :)

I love fresh trees, but with allergies (and the expense) it's fake for us. Much easier on the breathing... and sustainable. We actually got ours at a thrift store, big and it was $5.00. Can't beat that! I will buy a little fresh greenery for the nice piney scent...
ReplyDeletelove the tub =)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tree...I would love to have a real tree for Christmas...its been a very long time.....Christmas blessings to you and yours
ReplyDeleteThe topper is lovely. I love a real tree. They beat a fake one every time. Unfortunately our dogs love them too.
ReplyDeleteYour tree is lovely! I love the idea of using the washtub for the stand, but I always forget until I've got the whole thing decorated. I think I'll attach a note to myself inside the box of decorations when I put things away, so NEXT year I'll remember.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful! And I love a tree in a tub!!!!

ReplyDeletethat is too funny about the artificial tree. i prefer them because i am allergic to real trees ...found that out as a kid. i would always get a rash on my face when they were around. love your tree topper... such a great idea. i always feel sorry for the angel personally. ouchy!! i have a tigger holding a star & it moves around if you allow it to .. .. don't want the tree to fall over. my mom using a bright star... love it. your topper is so perfect. sparkle & all ... fun. thanks, for sharing. i love your family's style. ReplyDeleteYour tree is fabulous and the tub is wonderful. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteLooks like you've found the perfect solution for your county Christmas tree :)
ReplyDeleteLove the topper too... so darling.
Have a great weekend!!
Hey, that's a great idea to use a galvanized tube under the stand. We use the plastic underneath, with an old quilt covering the stand. But I might try your idea next year. Your tree is lovely. We also decorate our main tree with family made and given ornaments.
ReplyDeleteThe galvanized bucket is a great idea. One of my worst Christmas memories from childhood was the year my dad ruined the hardwood floors with his homemade cast iron stand. I think the tree topper idea is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Laura
I really want to put my tree in a tub or whiskey barrel, but we use the type of stand where a hole is drilled into the base of the tree and a spike stand is put in it and then the legs are attached. The tree is ALWAYS straight and super stable, but the diameter of the legs is so large it would require a pond sized tub! :(
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tree! Love the tub idea for a tree stand for real trees! And that topper is absolutely gorgeous! The hubby did a good job!
