Frugal Doings

We have been clearing the trees of oranges. We get critters in the yard so I don't want to attract them. This weekend I will make lots of orange juice and freeze the extras.

I am trying to not drive anywhere I don't need to. Will get an oil change on the way home from dropping off the kids at school.
Organized and cleared an extra shelf in the service porch for more pantry storage.

This is the only pantry I started out with. Pathetic. I now have food in lots of cupboards in the service porch. Moving things out and making it more for food storage.

Tuna Mac made entirely from garden and pantry. The celery and chives and eggs are from the garden. All other ingredients from the pantry.

Keeping large amounts of my cleaning supplies making my own concoctions and always making sure I am stocked up means I don't have to drive out to pick up things I am out of. $83 spent at the market this week so far but I will have to head to Target to stock up on pet foods. We are about out.

  2. I have one closet area in the kitchen and it is all the pantry I have. I try to keep just food in it and then other things in the laundry room. Seems storage is always a problem. I spent $133 this week on groceries, but that did include a lot of paper products on sale and coupons, so time to stock up. Love the Tuna Mac, sounds good. Hugs, Marty

  4. I didn't know you can freeze freshly squeezed orange juice. Do you thaw it and drink it or use it for smoothies?

  7. The less I go to the store the less I spend too. The tuna casserole looks yummy! That's one of my favorite cheap go to dishes.

  10. Isn't the gas outrageous? Sounds like you are combining your trips and making them count. I haven't been out of the house for two weeks and I'm sure that will affect my gas tank drastically!

  11. Great tips! I love your tuna mac recipe...so tasty! But it's too cold here for that now,LOL! Great minds think alike, I just got done clearing and cleaning my kitchen bookcases and getting more picky about what takes up my shelf real estate in my kitchen. Like you, I need practical usable items at the ready. I have a shelf unit on my porch too with "backup" supplies so I never run out of certain things.
Love the can box idea! Except I don't drink anything that uses cans like that. Hmm....maybe I will though...just to get the boxes!

  12. I love reading about all your ideas too;0)...we got a closed cupboard from Target a few years back to hold all of our extra pantry items...it works great...our house is small...my husband also got a whole set of shelves from an old pharmacy that was closing down...for free for the garage...they organized to the rest...they are real wood and that old aqua color that was popular in the 50's...amazing how much you can save by researching things and reading how others do it! Thanks for sharing!! Have a great weekend!!

  13. We use our third bedroom as an office/craft room and converted the closet to a pantry. Hubby built shelves and it holds my home canned goods and stockpile food. I am trying hard to watch sales and keep those shelves full!

  17. The soda can box -- what a great idea! When I'm finished with my Sprites, I'm going to cover that box! It must be wonderful to have fresh from the tree orange juice!

  18. Love the soda can box idea - but we don't drink soda! I, too, try to limit my trips in the car and usually schedule my errands on the same day.

Thanks so much for joining in this week, Elaine!
