In the mornings when Flower Muffin goes into the laying box to do her thing, this girl gets a squawking.
"Bawk, BAWK, BAWK"
As soon as I come out the door she is the perfect angel.
Looking for bugs.
"Yes, mom I am lonely while Flower Muffin lays her egg."
I know she is telling me she needs a buddy when Flower Muffin is not in her sight. Chickens sure are social creatures. Or maybe she is just doing that plain old egg song letting me know an egg is being laid.
Ah, that's so sweet, they're best friends! Does she lay eggs, too?
ReplyDeleteAwwww yes all birds, that's their "flock" mentality. Time for another chick. :) xo
ReplyDeleteChickens are very social and really do need companions. I hate to tell you -- but if you get another chick, you should probably get 2, because solitaries rarely thrive and it will take a while for old chicken and new chicken to get along together and integrate.
ReplyDeleteHi Elaine. I have a barred rock, too, and 9 other hens. My BR looks so much prettier this year. Last year she had pale chick feathers, but after she moulted they came in nice black and white. Yours is so pretty. I could easily become a chicken hoarder.
ReplyDeleteAw she is lonely! My friends have three chickens and they seem very happy!
ReplyDeletehugs, Linda
Yes, they are! I love that about them too!
ReplyDeleteI just read your tweet on your side bar about a gun man at school? Wow..when will this madness end?
xo Kris
Love that name - Flower Muffin! Makes me smile.

I love my chickens also...you can tell you love yours. I have 1 rooster and 7 hens and they seem very happy and very easy to keep. I say the more the merrier...:)
ReplyDeleteAwww, how cute. They definitely are social creatures. Did I see your girl on Tilly's Nest facebook page as the chicken of the day? :)
ReplyDeleteShe is gorgeous!!!! She definitely needs a friend, or maybe two! ;) x
ReplyDeleteAh I didn't know that about chickens...they are BFs then! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't have any chickens but our son does. They are a handful!
ReplyDeleteFriendly girls but really busy, all the time.
LOVE your chicken photos! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHow cute. I just bet there are plenty of stories when these girls get going. Fun!

Hi Elaine......maybe a window in the laying box so she can see her 'BBF' at all times and talk through the window..
ReplyDeleteBarb xx
I love the photo of her looking for bugs!
ReplyDeleteYou know you can't buy just 1 chick right? Have to have 2 or more, for company :)
ReplyDeleteVilken söt höna, synd att jag inte kan ha höns på kolonin. Vi får inte ha andra djur än katt och hund ev kaniner.
