Thanksgiving 2013 and a Thanksgiving Tree

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We did. It was very small. Just seven of us.
I wanted to show you my Thanksgiving Tree I did in the front room of the house. I took a small tree and placed it among the crocks and put brown ornaments on it and stashes of autumn leaves. Today it was transformed into a woodland Christmas tree.

I do almost all the cooking for Thanksgiving on Wednesday. That way I just reheat and pop in the oven things at the last minute. I even do my mashed potatoes the day before and just scoop them all into the crock pot and refrigerate until the next day. A few hours before I place them in the crock pot base and turn on high stirring a few times. The kitchen is much less messy on the day of and I can relax more and enjoy everyone else.

My oldest is a hospice nurse and was called out for a couple visits but managed to make it just in time to eat. I was so thankful she could sit down with us.

It has been a very good year full of lots of good changes for our little family and we are so thankful to have our girls and a loving home.

  1. What a beautiful family.

I do the same thing and make everything but the turkey the day before. It's so much easier that way.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  2. Ours was small also only 5 people. I made most of my stuff the day before. Had every little dishes to wash on thanksgiving day. But the day before I was swimming in them.

  8. I have a little woodland tree too. I't in our breakfast nook. It stays there all year long with changes for the seasons.
I do my meal the same way as you. I get to really enjoy my holiday that way.

  9. I like your Thanksgiving tree and how you decorated with it among the crocks and pumpkins. I saw a Fall tree at Pier One this year and started collecting ornaments to eventually do that too. I ordered a couple of small trees on Amazon. I'll use one for that next year. This year, I plan to start small themed Christmas trees throughout the house. I'm excited! :-)

Glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your beautiful family.

  13. What a brilliant idea to decorate the tree for Thanksgiving! Setting up the tree and getting the lights on are the time consuming parts, now you can decorate at your leisure:>) You have the cutest darn family! I'm so glad you had a good Thanksgiving together!
