Many of you know we lost our dog Sandy at the beginning of the year. We had wanted to get a new puppy in the fall when we knew we would be home and here to train a new dog. So a few days before Halloween, I brought home a Chihuahua mix puppy for our youngest especially to replace our other dog for her.
So meet Pip. A little brindle darling of a puppy. Sadly though. last week he started acting a little off and eventually he stopped eating.
After a few rough days, a trip the vet Saturday and last night having to rush him to the emergency vet at one in the morning, we finally know what is the matter with our little guy. He has a tiny microscopic parasite that has made him a very sick boy. We almost lost him last night and he still will not eat on his own. To keep his blood sugar up, we are hand feeding and making him eat every three hours. I have been to the vet three times and hubby, my oldest and I are all totally sleep deprived. He is still weak and not doing as well as we have hoped but he is on the correct meds and I hope he rallies and starts to feel better.
Ugh, I just wanted to bring home a puppy for my littlest and it has become a nightmare but we are so in love with him. Pray our little guy comes through. I know he is just a dog but it is heart breaking to see him suffer and to see how sad it is for the kids. I'll keep you posted, but for now our goal is to keep him nourished and prevent dehydration.
so sorry to hear about your new pup...will be praying the lil guy does better. He looks so sweet. He is a family member, more than just a dog. Sorry for the lose of Sandy. Take care.
ReplyDeleteOh Elaine, I'm just heartbroken for you. Almost lost our puppy after we had him for about two weeks. It was terrible. He was in so much pain. I soooo know what you are going through and it's heart wrenching and exhausting. Prayers to all of you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet little face - sending hugs and prayers for a speedy recover.
ReplyDeleteI will be keeping little Pip in my positive thoughts. This reminds me of when my daughters cat fell out her bedroom window because of a loose screen and was killed by Javelinas. I wanted to heal her heart so I rescued a tiny kitten that a friend found in her dogs mouth in the back yard. The kitten wasn't more than a few days old, we never found mom or any other kittens. I helped my daughter bottle feed this tiny baby. We had to treat it for eye infection, internal parasites, and fleas. But that little girl wanted to survive. Suzy the cat is now 19 years old, and still my adult daughters constant companion.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Sending all the good.
ReplyDeleteWhen we rescued our puppy she had parvo. I would add pedialite to her rx dogfood as she would eat. It was like soup. I also squirted some in her mouth. He made it. Yours is so tiny. Hope Pip gets better.
ReplyDeletehe is not just a dog he is your family member and he will be fine I just know it!!!! you are doing all the right things!!!!!
ReplyDeleteTo me, there is no such thing as "just a dog" (see my blog). He is already part of your family. I'm so glad you adopted him and not someone that would have just given up on him. Sending prayers for his recovery and of support to your and your family. Hugs to Pip.
ReplyDeletePrayer for this sweet little guy....they are a part of our family and we love them so. We lost ours the end of September and the house is not the same :( Keep up the fight and let us know how he does :)
ReplyDeleteOh! poor guy!
ReplyDeleteI sure hope he's on good meds now and is getting better.
hang in there!
Oh no Elaine! I am so sorry to read this! I sure hope that he springs back quickly! I know how quickly we get attached!!! Prayers for Pip!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kris

Don't feel you have to say he's just a dog. Those of us that love our animals know exactly what he is to you. If he wasn't a special member of your family you wouldn't be rushing him to the vet and you wouldn't be sleep deprived. I'm keeping all of you in my prayers and hope all the TLC works.
