I am such a fan of making and using your own sourdough starter. It is so active and bubbly. I make waffles and pizza dough with it, but my goal is bread. Our own sourdough bread. I vow to try many recipes and let you know my favorite.
Here is the easiest way to get a starter going. I honestly do not weigh. Just use the measurements and you are on your way.

ReplyDeleteI'm going to go check this recipe in a minute. I've not made Sourdough bread in almost 25 years! I usually buy it from the local bakery in our little town. I love the stuff.
You know last year I got a diagnosis of diabetes-- sourdough bread is good bread for a diabetic (in moderation of course) because the active and bubbly part (the living cultures) eat that sugar up! So my body doesn't have to deal with it.
I am going to give this a try!
What a fun way to start my summer baking. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I love homemade bread, and before all my hand surgeries, I loved to make it, kneading it myself. Now can't do that.

Decades ago I used to make my own bread with sourdough starter. I once again have the time, but I try not to eat bread. I could eat an entire loaf in one sitting.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I baked my first loaf of sourdough bread and it turned out great. I baked it in our pizza oven. I have also made a loaf in the bread maker, some banana bread, and plan to make pancakes and scones (biscuits I think you call them).
ReplyDeleteI am so glad I tried making sourdough, I had put it off for so long, but it is really easy once the starter is up and growing.

Gah, I tried sourdough starter, and did get it to live for a while, but found it confusing to use for bread. I did make a really yummy cast iron skillet pancake that everyone loved, though! I'll be watching for your post on how you do your bread!
