My Prim Christmas Decor - Dry Sink Vignette

I am always torn between my love of vintage Christmas decor and decorating for Christmas with primitives. In the den we tucked all our prim goodies come along and see our prim Christmas decor -dry sink vignette. Of course all credit goes to Dean. He does all of our decorating. #deandecorates

We made orange pomanders and salt dough ornaments and tucked the extras in my yellow-ware bowls.

I have a thing for rustic and prim candy canes. Dean tucks them throughout the house.

The black box in the background was a bread box from the thrift store that Dean painted and primmed up with a little sanding.

Primitive Fall Decorating Ideas - Crocks and Stacking Boxes - Fall Home Tour 2017

There are too many bits a things to show in one post so I will break down fall home tour 2017. Today I will share some Primitive Fall Decorating Ideas - Crocks and Stacking Boxes. As always all decorating is done by my husband so I should give him full credit.

I have had this little happy fall sign for years. Hubby has hung it on a crock stuffed with fall picks and his signature black crow. He loves prim black crows. 

This farm scene metal bucket is new this year. I love how he piled a small collection of fall cuties to create a charming fall vignette.

This fall corner is one of my favorites and as I took this shots at night, I love the punched tin prim star lamp and how it glows on the metal stars on the wall. Hubby is so funny. He tweaks all through the season moving things around until he is happy.

This little prim candle stick lamp is old but I found a ghost light bulb to dress it up for a Halloween vignette. You can find the bulb here.

Stacking boxes are the hallmark of primitive decor and I always buy a set every year or two. I don't know why, but I love them.  Stay tuned, next I will share his fall kitchen decorating.

Rustic Valentine's Day Decorations

As February is just around the corner I am gathering some rustic Valentine's day decorations to tuck here and there. I love to take down the Christmas but after a couple of weeks I am ready to decorate for the next holiday and am starting with some rustic Valentines day ideas.

Rustic old graters and galvanized buckets and watering can were brought into the kitchen to add some rustic decor.

Prim heart ornies are tucked into a bowl in our dry sink. I love their old feel and continue the rustic decor trend for Valentine's day.

We keep up our little winter tree and add red hearts to the red mittens for a Valentines tree idea. See our Valentines cookies recipe to bake up some Valentine treats.

Decorating Cozy Corners

Tucked in a corner off of our kitchen is my favorite corner of the house. Here are hubby's tips on decorating cozy corners. Now don't tell him that is what I am calling his decor. Shoot, he won't mind even if you did.

Over the weekend we bought a new punched tin lamp and some prim stacked nesting boxes. I have always loved stacked boxes. But enough that, now onto the hubby's tips:

1. Pick a couple unifying colors. Here we use mustard and black. Though we have a green couch in here and touches of red, it all works because of the base colors sprinkled throughout. (sprinkled is my word, not his)

2. Mix up textures. Wood, metal, soft, rough, etc. But grouping like collections is always better and make a nice statement.

3. Mix sizes, and decorate in threes. Odd numbers look better in decorating.

4. Leave some blank spaces for the eyes to rest. You can fill a space but leave the table below less cluttered. You don't want to have to spend forever dusting nick knacks. Don't be afraid to tuck things away in a closet. We do this all the time. We rotate stuff given what look we are going for at the time.

5. Lastly, adhere to the advice on the sign at my favorite shop,

Your husband called and said, buy whatever you want.

Fall Sunflower Decorating Ideas

I love sunflowers and working them into late summer early fall decor is perfect this time of year. Maybe it is a little too early for pumpkins but warm colors of burlap and yellows and golds, are perfect September decor. Here are a few of my decorating ideas for September or fall.

I found a strand of lighted sunflowers and knew I wanted to use them on my seasonal kitchen shelf display.

Hubby wound them around a fall garland and we tucked in some burlap sunflowers. Add a few pumpkins in October and we are set for fall.

Here I did a simple back to school centerpiece with silk sunflowers.

Sunflowers tucked in with other fall colored flowers are perfect this time of year.

And if you have fall colored sunflowers growing in the garden, all the better for fall display or autumn decor.

How to Cover an Ugly Alarm Panel

See how to cover an ugly alarm panel by modifying a small hanging cabinet. Right in the front entry of our home we have a hideously ugly alarm panel next to an even older alarm switch. I have always hated looking at these and wanted a way to cover them up. So here is how we covered up our ugly alarm system.

Here is what is hidden inside. We took a shallow small wall cabinet and popped off the back panel. It is small enough to not stick out as we go in and out but the perfect size to camouflage the ugly alarm pads.

It also is a great place to stash keys and sunglasses right by the door.

There you go. The alarm system is covered and the entry looks so much better. You'd never know what was hidden inside.

Spring / Summer Entry Decor

The days are getting warmer and it's time to make the entry way ready for the season. Today I am sharing some spring / summer decor my very own entry way. You want to welcome visitors right away so I love to change our little doorway with the seasons.

I really love rustic touches so last year I bought this colored burlap banner off of etsy. This year we hung it here as you walk in the front door.

My little prim black cabinet got a splash of yellow from you  know who. He does most of the arranging around here.

I wanted a lamp here but no plug was a problem so a batter operated candle had to do.

To me summer means sunflowers. I just love them don't you?

Displaying Crocks and Rolling Pins

I have a lot of collections but two of my favorites are old crocks and vintage rolling pins.

They get moved about but for now some of the crocks have been put to use displaying my rolling pins. 

Here are my tips for displaying crocks and rolling pins:

• Display crocks together in groups of three or more.
• Display by like color
• Display in graduated sizes
• Display in odd number, 3, 5, 7

With rolling pins they look best gathered together and here I have them standing in crocks

Display similar colors

Display with similar sizes in separate containers. You can see they make much more of a statement gathered together. You know they are a collection but you will find them standing alone to complete another vignette throughout my house.

The women that used both these items would laugh today that we would treasure the items they used in everyday chores.

Christmas Home Tour

Happy Holidays!!

The house is all dressed for Christmas. We worked hard cause Christmas comes early this year.

I am going to give you a Holiday home tour in stages cause I have a lot of pictures to share.

Welcome to our home. A wreath of gold dresses up the entry way.

I put my Christmas tree in our front room in a large crock.

I had this tree decked out for fall and now transitioned to a woodland Christmas tree theme.

Snowmen are the theme in this room. I love and have collected them for years.
