Cleaning Your Keurig

Cleaning your Keurig brewer is important. Not only do you need to occasionally clean to kill bacteria in your coffee maker, but I believe it is the key to making brewers last longer. Ours is almost five years old now.

Coffee Tips, Recipes and More

If there is a close second to my love of chickens then it must be coffee and I have a few coffee tips, recipes and more. I blog a lot about my love of coffee. I think I am addicted. Here are some of my favorites in all things coffee.

Remember when everyone was setting up a coffee bar? Well, I knew I had to have a cute defined space for mine. It has moved a few times but in my kitchen it had to be a small compact coffee bar with color of course and by that I mean RED so our coffee meets bagel time would be cuter. Don't tell hubby.

Hard water deposits and even bacteria can gather in your coffee makers so regular cleaning is essential. I show how I use nontoxic household kitchen items to  clean you coffee maker or Keurig.

We are too cheap to visit Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf (my favorite) or Starbucks very often so I love to find ways to fancy up our coffee time at home. Some favorite ways to dress up those coffee beans:

Simple DIY coffee foam takes just a minute and you already have the tools in your kitchen. I promise.

Or how about our frugal version of white chocolate peppermint mocha latte.

And though this recipe has no coffee in it whatsoever, I think coffee creamer ties it in. These are a Saturday morning favorite of caramel macchiato pancakes.

I believe the only recipe I am missing is a coffee cake recipe. I better get on that.

These are our favorite coffee pods and I love that they come in a little mesh bag and not a plastic cup. They come out to only .31 per cup if you have them on subscribe and save like we do. We get a case a month. If you do subscribe and save it is actually $41.65 per month.

Cheapest Coffee Pods for Keurig and Friday Frugal Update

We use our yellow Keurig everyday so find the cheapest coffee K-cups and coffee pods is key. Frugal tips and where to get the best price on k-cups.

Relieved that this week has been less expensive than last week. Here are some things we did this week in our frugal living mode.

Called our insurance agent about our vehicle insurance again just to go over whatever we could do to lower our rates. Our college age daughter, who we still pay for, was on a separate policy. By putting her in with our multi-line policy plan we will be able to say over $300 a year. That is substantial and worth the time I think.

I have to replace our windshield on my car and found out if it costs more than our deductible, it will not hurt our rates to file a glass claim for whatever amount is over our deductible.

I am cooking food out of our freezers this week trying to just clear it out so it can be reorganized and to avoid having to throw away something that is freezer burned. If we cannot eat the food we hope it is something the chickens might like but most times, I manage to make some sort of meal or food out of it.
I have a banana bread in the oven right now that I am using bananas from the freezer, some almonds that need using and some dried blueberries that have been around for a while.

I shop for many of our food and supplies from Amazon. I will do a post very soon on what I find to be worth ordering. But if you know me at all you know both hubby and I love coffee and have a Keurig we love and use daily. The pods can be expensive from stores so we have found a coffee we absolutely love and is very economical to order from Amazon. It is the San Francisco brand and our favorite is the Fog Chaser. We also love that the cups are not plastic but the little mesh bags.

In the stores the coffee pods run about .60 - .70 per pod and some more. We like good coffee so when we discovered this brand we were excited. The pods run for a box .36 a piece and if you do like us and get it on subscribe and save they are .31 a piece. Compared to Starbucks I'd say a bargain. I put the link below because folks have asked me what brand I buy knowing my frugal queen ways. It is an affiliate link so I would get a small portion that would go to help offset the costs of running this blog.

I hope my tips and sharing of money saving ideas are worth your reading and can help others in some small way but it does take time and a bit of research. But thank you so much for reading and to those that are loyal followers. You are AWESOME!! November

The month has been rolling along. Each day busy with everyday things but also trying to get my holidays in order. I am eager to start wrapping the gifts I already have. Carving a time each week to do that is a priority. My goal is to be done before December but I am pretty sure I won't make it. Oh well.

I went to another pinterest party where we made adorable Christmas crafts. A tree has been brought out to tuck among the fall decor. Thanksgiving is fast approaching. A day out for frozen yogurt with mom.

Cleaning my stove burner grates in preparation for the holidays. In the midst of painting the den linen white and my brother has built us a brand new brick porch.

Early mornings of solitude, a new succulent garden planted, coffee making on a Sunday morning and the most gorgeous pink sunrise I have ever seen. Brought the kids out to see it it was so beautiful.

Hot Cocoa Basket and Homemade White Chocolate Peppermint Mocha Latte

This time of year I like to add some Christmas cheer to the coffee station with a Hot Cocoa Basket and Homemade White Chocolate Peppermint Mocha Latte recipe. I put a little treat out for the kids and their friends. I take a basket and load it with hot cocoa packets and a cheery jar of marshmallows.

Here's how I did the basket in years past. And we really stepped our game when we did this hot drink tray.

Also I want to share my recipe for my take on one of Starbuck's holiday drinks. Here is my recipe for my  poor man's white chocolate peppermint mocha latte.

Poor Man's White Chocolate Peppermint Mocha Latte

I am in love with Starbuck's Peppermint Mochas but at 4.55 for a small we had to break up. I nearly died when I went in and ordered one the other day and that was my total. Wow, have prices gone up. So I just got to goofing around here one day and made my Poor Man's White Chocolate Peppermint Mocha Latte version. It is so good!

1. First, take a few of those Hershey's White Chocolate Peppermint kisses and drop them in the bottom of your mug and pour your hot coffee in.
2. Then add some sweetener  and some creamer and mix well. I had the Mounds flavored CoffeeMate. 3. Top with a dollop of whipped cream and sprinkle with some crushed candy cane.
Now doesn't that look yummy?
